AC = Alternating Current, DC = Direct (?) Current.
Two types of electricity. Batteries work on DC, household stuff on AC.

Right, I forgot I wasn't talking to an American. Yes, AC/DC is a band, known for that quote that SFK wrote, and yes, their name comes from the electricity, but no one talks about that.
