If you're referring to college courses, core curriculums don't exist to make you a better computer programmer but a better person in general. more rounded and not closed in to your one specific field of study. Having a broader sense of the world, relating to others, etc. You can't stand to sit through your history class, but there's countless people going for degrees or having jobs they love in that field. why?? how??

Plus from my experience my core classes have been 110% easier than my actual major courses. They're designed with the idea that people are required to take them and that they might not be interested in them, but there's still a reason it's mandatory to take them. so no complaining shush

I've been told it's pretty much the opposite at my university. Core classes are unreasonably difficult for mandatory classes and don't always teach much (three humanities courses lol), but major/upper division courses aren't too bad if you're willing to work. That being said, there should totally be more versatility for what you can take as GEs. Forcing people to learn what they don't want to usually doesn't make someone a better person.

Let me tell you a story. The story of a 16 year old named E. Gadd. My school year started on August 7th, 2016. I had no idea what I had coming, but I knew that many people said junior year was the most difficult. 4 AP classes, 2 classes that only seniors should be taking, and many situations involving my getting out of my comfort zone soon followed this first day. Many days of getting 6 hours or less of sleep, countless weeks spent in survival mode, 30 days of shutting myself away from my passions and desires to prepare, and all for this moment. Looking back on the year, many things happened. I've grown much since that fateful day in August. I've made new friends, ignited new animosities, gained new confidence, and yet, even with all the new, I never abandoned those I held dear to me. I've learned much over the year, and not just academically. I've experienced so much, from something as simple as meeting new people to something as uncomfortable as dancing in front of the whole school to things are extraordinarily wild as going to Washington DC. But now, 4 AP tests later, I'm finally finished. I can rest. I can re-embrace the passions I suppressed for far too long. I am free again. How I've longed for this day to come. I'm saying all this to you for one reason: despite the fact that I never left, I'm back. I'm back to the musical part of the forums now. I'll be a contributing member to the site once more, as I was before things picked up.
