I considered that, but the melody sits better on the down beats imo.

That way may be more aesthetically pleasing, but doesn't sound correct at all.

Your way doesn't sound correct at all to me, though.

Okay then, how about this: The weight of the line is less coherent in the way Don has displayed. The way you two imagine it, up-beats are given an absurd amount of emphasis, especially for a small jingle (and even more so when you compare it to the rest of the OST). Below I've drawn out how the weight emphasis works, and it always leaves you on an unsatisfying up-beat:

Now if we consider that tonal music revolves around "stress and release," or resolutions of harmonies and rhythms, the way I notated it will make more sense. This method always rhythmically resolves do a down-beat, rather than an up beat.

I'm not trying to say that the way you two agree on can never occur or is impossible, but when the piece is as short as three seconds, the way I have notated it can be picked up much easier and makes more sense.

I honestly still don't see it that way, as much as I keep playing and replaying the song.

No matter how you put it, I cannot conceive the bass is off-beat. The way you suggest it is just incoherent and illogical to the ear.
Besides, if you pay attention to the last note, it's value is that of a half+quarter, not a dotted half. That can't be coincidence either. /:

I disagree; having an off-beat bass would make it harder to pick up.

But that's not too uncommon to hear in video game music. I can't really follow your logic here.

Don and MSF are right in virtue that the last note of the piece lasts for exactly 5 beats. I think Olimar knows this however and is trying to say that he's slightly giving up accuracy in order to make it easier to sight read. This is especially important for something so short, as a jingle shouldn't be something you have to study.

What MSF said. Also aren't those quarters in RH supposed to be eighths

The way I have notated it is the way that I most effortlessly hear and perceive this piece. Having it start on the up beat of four is illogical and overcomplicates what should be a simple jingle. You guys are getting too worked up over the theory side of this.

What's so odd about that? I see that come up quite a bit.

I'm having a hard time even explaining what's odd about it in a manner that doesn't involve me simply saying "just listen to it lol."

But literally just listen to that melody omg
