1: If Mashi is a wolf, it's likely that his partner is still alive, but the same is not true for davy.

I don't know why there needs to be an exchange before that for it to make sense.

It matters because Mashi should've known that TST was a fool because they were apparently in contact even before Mashi claimed fool (because of the "stumbler relation," which, if Mashi was a human, should've indicated to him immediately that TST was a fool).
