I read this at first without any context and was very concerned
Then I realized we were talking about fish and I was relieved
But then I realized that the fish talk was still within a romantic context so I'm concerned again

I'm very bad at noticing if a guy is checking me out or flirting with me. It just never happened until I was ~21 so I never learned to recognize it

Here's a good trick I use.

Go to a crowded area (coffee shop, for example). Look around. Look at people you might like. Look at their head. If they look up and make eye contact and give you a coy smile, you're in business. If they give you a weird look, look to the next one. Chances are you won't see them again or for a while and they'll forget it.

I spend at least 30 minutes of my work day on the internet not supposed to but, eh, haven't been caught yet

and old people
they're way more fun than 80% of people my age

Old people are only fun when they're fun. I used to play piano for demented elderly people and some where really fun, but others were always grumpy. My boyfriend can tell you loads of stories of experiences he had with elderly people.

I work at a retirement home. 90% of the people are just positively cheery, while the other 10% yell at you for the smallest reason.
