There was this poem we read in class written by a college professor who was told by a student that when he was little, he trampled a bunch of pigeons to death, not knowing what death was.

The person became a vegetarian later. The child wasn't evil; he was innocent, he was innocent in his ignorance, but his ignorance was to produce what might be considered evil.

I can't even get close enough to pigeons (or any type of non-domesticated bird) to throw bread to them, let along make physical contact with them (ducks are an exception, although they're in the water)...
