Wait (I'm not trying to be a smartass here) other than the selection of Pokémon being < 200, why was the gameplay shit? It was definitely the best incarnation of dungeon crawling we've seen and it really was EXTREMELY similar to everything we've seen in the other games xD also, PSMD is using the same format, right?

Fuck logic, that shit is boring, lame and does not always support my opinions.

I didn't buy GtI mostly because I was rather annoyed at the following things: 1) lack of gender selection; 2) absolute lack of starters (if I can't use my Pikachu/Squirtle core I'm not interested); 3) not having all the Pokémon. I could accept it with Ranger but Mystery Dungeon had established that all Pokémon are catchable!! and GtI got away from that and I was like "no fun"

I think I was more disillusioned with the complete lack of Pokémon. Every dungeon felt like it held mostly the same Pokémon due to that and it felt stale. Also the starter thing was also super sad to see.

Yeah I totally agree with all of this for sure (I didn't really mind the lack of starters since one of them was one of my fav Pokémon ever but the rest I agree with)

I'm in a similar boat Slow, but we have to acknowledge that other people believe such gameplay defects exist (read any review and you're bound to find something). Sometimes you can point out contradictions or non-issues (you can't complain about rushed character development and claim the story's pacing was too slow) but unlike the music or story, I cannot outright argue they are wrong, only that one shouldn't let those things detract from the other undeniably positive aspects of the game. Not everyone is able to do that though.

How much bribery do you need for me to convince you to play it before PSMD comes out?

A lot considering a) I have no money b) PSMD less than two months away and c) I'm a college student with no free time. :p I'm not super opposed to playing it but I do have a lot on my plate and the ideal thing for me to do would be to borrow it from a friend anyway, which... the two friends I have who own it do not live near me...... (ok one does but she goes to college in Iowa)

Going to try and master GTI before PSMD. 40,000 Paradise points to go before I reach max rank. Goodness even with my level 100 Keldeo and defeating bosses with no problem it takes forever to get just 10,000 points... Decided to head to Strongest Trail to see if I could beat it and I did, finally getting the resistance crown after two years of off and on trying! I just wish there was a way to get 10 star boss missions more since I keep getting 9 star missions.

What is your play time on this game because it took me a good 35-40 hours to see the credits alone looool

It took me 24 hours to beat the main story and at the moment I have 70 hours of total playtime

I didn't have a 3DS when Gates came out, but now I do, and there is no power on Earth that can stop me from getting PSMD.

I don't have Gates because I missed the chance to get it when it came out, and now my wallet and schedule would really like it if I tried to forget about it and just "be satisfied" with PSMD. But it sounds like people think it would be better to play Gates first.

I'm really teetering on the brink here. Is playing Gates first an absolute thing-I-should-do, or would it really matter if I went ahead and enjoyed PSMD, then possibly got Gates eventually?

...Really though. Don't let them take it away from you. That desire for something more, for adventure... for destiny. Don't let them turn it against you, either.

I think there's just this lingering sentiment floating around that "Once PSMD comes out, everything else will pale in comparison". However, the more I look into the game, the more I realize it's not a difference of quality, but difference in content. PSMD looks to be a very Explorers-esque game, and that's fine because Explorers, though markedly different in scope than Rescue Team and Gates (those two being far more like eachother), doesn't diminish the value of either of those games. You'll be fine getting Gates in your own time. Trust me, I got it only recently myself (late 2014).

Thank you! I really appreciate your opinion. I won't worry about Gates for now, so maybe I'll enjoy it some other time, like next summer.

It sounds great, though! I'm glad I have been able to read all of the good opinions about it in this thread.

It's finally done... 76 hours of gameplay, 26 for the main and post story. That equals 50 hours of non stop battles against random outlaws, trying the DLC dungeons or robbing defeating Legendary Pokemon over and over and over again, and I finally have the Perfect Paradise rank! GTI is completely beat for me after 2 and a half years, and it's the first PMD I got max rank on so far. It took forever due to how many points you need to get the final rank and how little you get when clearing a mission. (Advice for those wanting to get Perfect Rank: USE COMPANION MODE AND THE LEFT NOTICE BOARD. Then have a Pokemon with surf and Double Kick like Keldeo to take out either all pokemon instantly or murder bosses in 3 turns. Vile seeds make it even easier. It saves time and makes it not nearly as long as having you wake up every morning)

My Keldeo is now Level 100 with all stats nearly to 200 (Including Special defense thanks to the Persistence crown) and in the post-game dungeons excluding Strongest Trail, he doesn't even take damage from the wild pokemon anymore! Goodness, it makes me wonder why he didn't go ahead and save the world himself if he's incredibly overpowered... I didn't try the level 1 dungeons yet but since I got max rank I don't feel it's needed since I did enough work to get maximum rank anyway. Listening to the Frism theme in the paradise is a sign of victory and for me a theme giving me hope to the next adventure on friday, wherever the wind blows...

Well, you now just rendered the argument of "no post-game content" null and void.
My thanks.

Oh, and expect me to pester you for official track names, since all the Youtube uploads of the OST are incorrect.
