Nah, you can write it that way or, as a calculator spits it out, it can be written as 1.0E9.

Well TECHNICALLY speaking, there's no multiplication involved in 1.0E9 at all. It is simply a representation of 1,000,000 in scientific notation. 1.0E9 is the same thing as 1.0x10^9, just a different way of writing it, also most graphing and scientific calculators use E.
