I think we're about to be overridden by spambots. The "most online ever" counter hit a peak today, with 255 active users being online about three hours ago. I read that as "250+ new spambots registered at the same time today".

Can we do anything to keep them out? Some times, I wish for an Internet police that could track down their makers and outright hang them. Yes, I'm actually that annoyed with online advertisers.
Emergence - a story exclusive to NSM

Yes, I'm still around from time to time. For quicker response, you can reach me by PM, or drop by Smogon to say hi. I go by "Codraroll" there, because of a bet.

SuperFireKirby

With the human checker thingies where it has a picture of random characters that are all squiggly and whatnot and you type it in the little textbox below the picture and it keeps bots from making accounts.

Quote from: Mashi on March 26, 2013, 05:54:37 PMAfter viewing both FMA:Brotherhood and Naruto Shippuden, it would be frivolous to even consider watching an anime as unbearably mediocre as Melancholy. NARUTOxHINATA 4 LYFE!!!

If I recall correctly....

Doesn't NSM use the human checker that asks the user whether or not it was human?
It's dangerous to go alone, take me with you! [JUB has joined the party.]

WiiMan96

There's the "visual identification" thing as well as a drop-down box asking if you're human (default no).

THEY'RE BREACHING OUR DEFENCES GUVNOR!

Viagra eliminated.

EDIT: Also added some new bot filters. Let's see if they can keep the bots out.

one website I went to forced new users to email the admin with a reason for wanting to join, a short bio, and how you found the site. Although judging by our intermittent periods of laziness on this site, and the shyness of some of the newcomers (esp in chat, I've scared off a fair few >_> <_<), that might not be the best system here.

You can just make them go through me, I'll be sure to keep the undesirables and spambot out :)

I wish I was here while this occured.
I go to another forum, an Animal Crossing forum, and there were about 10 bots advertising about medicines, porn, videogames, and all that good stuff.  We don't know a way to counter these retarded bots.
