I was going to say something about this, but I thought everyone knew about this already so that's why I kept my mouth shut.

I always just beat Lance with my (usually overleveled) starter... And the whole Elite Four, to boot.

For more recent games, though, I've gotten more "diverse," usually leveling up two or three Pokémon to the same, or very similar, levels.

I always have a balanced team of six. It's more effort, but very worthwhile imo

I partly recall finding out about it from this community, but I wasn't sure, and I figured nobody cares about one more post.

The only game where I actually used my starter to the very end was Soul Silver. Most of the time I end up ditching it for one reason or another.

I always end up ditching my starter unless I'm playing Gen 1 or Gen 2 games. The starter aren't that kewl anymore.

I'd definitely agree that the first two gens have the coolest starters.

But I love all of the Grass starters.
