I've been bamboozled. My mother bought a vegetable called 紫山药, and it's pretty much like a regular mountain yam/nagaimo except it has really dark skin and purple flesh. It's a super long yam (not sweet potato). But I can't find the English name, for some reason. In fact, I can't find any reference to purple mountain yams on the Internet. And that makes me feel like something's wrong, because there are plenty of references to it in Chinese. In English, trying to filter out references to ube and purple sweet potatoes has just resulted in strange websites and a random Mother 3 translation thing. And it's bothering me, how I can't find anything about it in English.

I thought that too, but he mentioned "ube" in the post, which is apparently what that is?

Yeah, it's not that one. It's very similar to it, though, it has the same purple interior and brown exterior. In the meantime, I've found a reference to it as "Chinese Rare Mountain Purple Yam", but that was on a food distributor website.

Huh, looks like Google Translate isn't picking up the fact that 山药 refers to a very specific type of yam, the Chinese yam. I guess it could be a subspecies or a cultivar of the one you linked, bred to be super long?
