Curious. What's like, an average rent for a place?

A quick look on Craiglist and I could only find one apartment under $1000/mo. which was a one bedroom. Most 2-3 bedrooms seem to be the $1500-$2500 range.

Honestly appartment hunting in NYC looks like a major pain in the ass. One of my friend living there spent over 7 months looking for one, and in the end settled for some shitty overpriced thing because there was nothing else available, and he didn't want to dish out over $1000 a month.

Depending on area, it's possible to get something cheap in a remote (far from the transit system) area. It's still probably $800-$1000 for those. On the Upper West Side, a small 2 or 3 bedroom could cost about $3000/month. On average in the city, expect to pay about $1500/month. I think that if a lot of you are thinking of coming and going in the city, it's best to even just buy a small house in Brooklyn and use it like that airbnb that Jub used when he was here.

On a side note: that's crazy. My first place, a 2 bedroom with one and a half bath, cost $495 a month.

My place now is 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, and is $900. But there's 5 people in it so my share is only $180.
