Waffles have crevices, pancakes are flat.

Waffles are cooked in a press which gives them a checkered pattern on top and a fairly crunchy texture. Pancakes are cooked in a frying pan and are fairly soft. They're both served with different condiments.

I was guessing this is because of some foreign difference, but you're from Australia too. YOU MUST TRY WAFFLES

Belgian waffles are the best.
