No reason to bother with a formula.  All you need to know is get the lowest health possible, put it to sleep, and spam ultra balls/special situational balls (heavy, net, etc).

Actually, my friend literally disproved this formula just yesterday. Something about how the square root of 2^8 = 64 -1 is not viable... I don't know what he said, but anyways, the formula is wrong.
