Kindergarten or -den or whatever it is, is the year before 1st grade in America (attended at age 5). Unlike preschool, kindergarden is mandatory.

Really in america it is mandatory? In Austria it isn't. You can decide (or better your mother) if you go to kindergarten or not.

It's being mandatory is ridiculous, but, you can homeschool a year like that,(as long as either the mom or dad is home)

In most states one must start at five, some states however, do start at 6, I know a few of those

First of all, some people may be confused: New Hampshire has Kindergarten, it's just not required. Many towns have kindergarten, most of them even with public kindergartens.

And, New Hampshire requires that all towns have public kindergarten now. A dozen or so towns still don't, and they have until sometime this year to get kindergarten available. Not sure when the deadline is.

England has Reception, a psuedo Kindergarten.

We start school at 4.

Most people do college- that's another 2 years

So generally 18.

If you're including college, we don't get out until anywhere from 20-25.
