Go for it, I don't know why you're asking me though. I just coined the term, I didn't invent the concept.
Try to do everything; you're bound to succeed with at least one.

Random thought. What if there were a role that was purposefully excluded from the sign-ups and such so that nobody knew of it, and then when the game begins, one player (who would have been a human) is told exactly how this role works and what it is? Obviously it would need to be balanced meticulously because nobody knows about them, but would it completely violate the rules and destroy the game, or could it work?

It seems my constant ninja-ing is coming back. That's twice today.
You know you've been playing too much Dragon Quest when you're afraid your Hershey's Kisses are going to flee.

You see, we're entertainers. We must keep people smiling. No matter how grim things get, we must always be optimistic!

This could definitely work. There are Mystery Games where nobody knows any of the roles except their own. So I don't think one secret role would be problematic.

The only problem with it is that for anybody to balance the game, they would need to see the role, which would prevent them from being able to play.

How do those mestery games work? I think I saw one before where you didnt know the players names....?

And I think for the game to work someone experienced would have to check the role and make sure it doesnt give one side an advantage, and then they would not be able to talk about it or play the game themselves

Mashi

Yeah, something like that would be fine, Zunawe.  Considering that I'm taking a break, I could be a good person to run it by, since I wouldn't play the game anyway.

Bird, a Super TWG is a game with all Special Roles.

Bibbles, a Mystery Game is a game in which none of the Roles are known (as in, you don't know what the Roles are when you even sign up to play.  You learn your Role in the PM, but that's it.  Rest is speculation!), only the number of Players.

Bubbles

But I mean if no one knows the roles how do you know if its balanced or not?

Mashi

The game is sent to an experienced Player (often TWC) and that TWC balances.  Evidently enough, that Player isn't permitted to play the game.

TWG: Horror Movie REDUX

Game notes: Death posts due to night deaths may now contain game information (but not votes). However, you may only make a death post with permission from the host, due to a mechanic from Freddy Kreuger.

1. Jason - Teams up with Normal Slasher to wolf. When Lynched, sends a PM to the host to instantly kill someone.
2. Normal Slasher - Teams up with Jason to wolf.
3. Indipendant Slasher - Knows he's a slasher, but doesn't know his teammates. Can vigi someone each night phase.

4. Crazy Ralph - Every night, he receives a list of 4 names, at least one of which must be a wolf.
5. Nurse - Guardian - If she guards a slasher, she dies instantly. Cannot guard Crazy Ralph.
6. Cheerleader - Selects one player to protect her. When she is attacked or lynched, that player is attacked or lynched in her place. Then it is announced to the thread that "PLAYERNAME, the cheerleader, has run upstairs!"
7. Psychic Dude - Can instantly end a phase by posting GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO in the thread. Phantoms caused by this do not count. Power can only be used once. Can bring one player back to life.
8. Human
9. Human
10. Human
11. Human
12. Human
13. Human
14. Human
15. Human
16. Human
17. Human

18. Freddy Kreuger - Traitor - Counts for the Human Side. Has the option to be charismatic each day phase. Has vigilante powers, which allow him to control the death post of his targets. Has thew Same powers as Crazy Ralph. Wins when he's the only player left.

All the Rest are Humans. For them to Win they must not pass lynch/have wolved all the slashers and Freddy Kruegar.
Fixed it.

Quote from: the_last_sheikah on September 24, 2012, 02:47:08 PMI see one problem with that idea: Mashi
*"accidentally" modifies results to prevent Mashi from getting that role*

Anyway, I think that would be kinda fun, but I don't really have any games to do that with.

Other random idea: What if there were a thread for balancing games that the creator doesn't necessarily want to put on a host sign ups thread. That way they could perfect the game over time, and the sign ups would just be giving games and people discussing why they like it or not.

I had suggested it to Mashi a few games ago, I'm not sure if he's going to make such a thread. Personally I think it's a good idea, that way it can be seen by potential players before hosting comes up and it can be given TWC approval since most people don't run their games by them anyway.
