Tio Lucho

hi, look, i'm new in this piano thing, so forgive me if this question is a little stupid.

you'll see, there are 2 part in this sheet that is red with a "8va-----" and it sound a little different when that thing appears,
i dont know how to do that in the piano, so i was wondering if you can tell me what is it and how to do it.

Sir Dino

First, welcome to the forums! The "8va" is an ottava. I think it means one scale up. (correct me if i'm wrong guys) btw doesn't this go in the help forum?

that is correct though I believe it's not necessarily a "scale" up.

When you see "8va" you're meant to play the part an octave up

example:

        ^                                                 ^
Imagine you're playing C D E on the very left. If there is an 8va over the notes you would play the C D E in the next octave.

This also applies with 8vb, which means you're meant to play an octave lower, and 15ma and 15mb, play two octaves higher and two octaves lower, respectively.

I hope that answers your question. If you're still confused, let us know.

take a few moments to practice that part, left hand only, slowly, alternating between the two. Once you can do the jump easily, practice it with both hands until you get that. Then, go back a few measures and see if you can do the jump after playing those measures.

good luck!

also, I think I'll need to revise this arrangement :\ so when I do, I'll let you know.

Cobraroll

8va = "8 Vhatchacallits Above"
15ma = "MightjustbemecountingwrongbutIgetto16ofthesethings Above"

Same with 8mb and 15mb.

Yes, I'm still around from time to time. For quicker response, you can reach me by PM, or drop by Smogon to say hi. I go by "Codraroll" there, because of a bet.

To correct cobra:

8va - Ottava alta - Play one octave higher than written.
8vb - Ottava bassa - Play one octave lower than written.
15ma - Quindicesima alta - Play two octaves higher than written.
15mb - Quindicesima bassa - Play two octaves lower than written.
