New Programs on XP?

Will newer games and applications work on Windows XP? I tried looking it up on Google but I get the vice-versa question, and it's getting annoying. Anybody have the answer for me?

Programs will probably work, though they would specify if they are compatible or not.  Same with games.  A lot of newer games require directx 10 or 11, which requires Vista or Windows 7.

XP is still seriously popular, while being so old.
I hope Windows 8 fails, I don't want touchscreens at all, it's a disease
