Articulation HELP!

Today I was using Finale 2009, just like every other day in my life, but something weird started to happen...
I wanted to add some staccato to my music, so i clicked the articulation button at the top. But when I went to click the note to put the staccato on , it automatically put articulation 34, (don't know the specific name, but it's the one with 3 lines that makes a quarter note play like a 16). How do I fix this?!?!?! It never brought up the menu with all the articulations on it, and i can't figure out how to get it to come up. Please help!!!

The thing that you're referring to is the tremolo, it gives you an option of which one that you want to put up there. I do believe that staccato is 1, so make sure that it's on 1.
