Because, while they are tremolo-like, they are not tremolos.

I just thought doing so would help clear up the squishyness of places like m. 1-4, since the shorthand would provide some extra space for those quarter notes in m. 2 & 4.

It's really not that squished, and I prefer to keep the clarity that the sixteenth notes preserve. Thanks though, very valid suggestion.
