How to you play staccato a steel drum!? xD I think it's also the awful quality of the song itself due to GBA compression that makes it unclear. Sounds sooo weird to me with the staccatos...

You have a valid point but I was especially thinking about longer notes. They'd sound completely different without staccatos, and give the song a completely different character.
