FINALLY! This was the announcement I was really hoping for today. September 22 can't get here fast enough. I'll be getting Silver.

Holy bedsheets! This will make me start playing my 3DS again! My original Gold cartridge won't save and I'm not bothered to get the battery fixed.

Sad no crystal, but silver is superior so it's okay.

GF must have read my mind because I've recently been seriously considering playing through a Gen 2 game again. I've missed my time with my dear childhood copy of Gold (I still have it!). And PokéBank support is always welcome. INCOMING GEN 2 STARTERS

Everyone keeps saying that, but what are we really losing by not having Crystal? Female protag and Eusine, I guess? And let's be honest, if they offered Crystal, nobody would get Gold or Silver.

^people bought red and blue. Also nostalgia would still sell well. Tbh I'll probably buy all three (when they release crystal).

You're forgetting a few things.
-Battle Tower
-Cute lil sprite animations
-Getting Suicune, meaning one less stupid legendary beast to hunt down
-Move Tutors
-Trainers would the players items (which were evolutionary stones!)

And many more.

Also, excuse you, Kris is great and means a lot to me. I remember being excited as a child that I could finally play as a girl in a Pokemon game.

I would personally still get Silver either way (it's the only one of the three I had)

I wonder if they're keeping the errors of the US version? How Teddiursa and Phanpy were accidentally switched across versions, etc.

So uh

Please tell me I'm not the only one who never noticed that the wild Pokémon battle themes are different from day (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eQq2v6kBKSM) to night (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aECB1LQ862E)

In my defense the HGSS soundtrack only includes one GB sounds version and it's not really identical to either of these

For as much as the offer tempts me, I think I'm gonna wait until Crystal version.

I mean technically, I already own the cart for Gold version, I just don't have any way to play it... which really kinda sucks

Why do you say that? Knowing nintendo, it'd be perfect to release that at a later time once people have already bought up gold and silver, similar to the initial release. Keeps the fire going.

And, just saying... completely unrelated to the previous train of thought, but... Gen 2 has the best gym theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy2uE8eIdNs). HGSS botched it.

Gen 2 really did so much for the franchise though. It was so much more refined and polished than Gen 1 in terms of both gameplay (precedent of adding types and splitting Special into Special Attack and Special Defense... like it should have been all along) and story elements (first legendaries tied into the history and/or myths of the region), without overdoing anything. It was simple, and created such a wonderful atmosphere.

that doesn't mean that the game is not bad though

i'm not denying its importance, only its quality when you remove it from the "progression" of pokemon mechanics

People say that, but gen II are objectively the most fun Pokémon games, like even though I played Ruby first I have to say I've never had more fun with Pokémon than I have with gen II, even years later. It holds up.

The gameplay makes the game though. If you remove that, then that statement could apply to any game in the series (though there are also other factors that make certain games in particular, especially Gen 2, enjoyable).

And what was wrong with gen 1 is what made it enjoyable

I like how you say "objectively" as if it is some sort of undeniable fact. Are you forgetting the part where grinding is much, much, MUCH more of a chore than in any other Pokémon game, and you probably have to grind to beat Red?
