wired is better unless you have an above average internet connection and/or router (i have both ;D ;D ;D).

Nintendo USB Connector.

I use one with a router for internet from my other computer.

I had the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector in use for a while, but I found it offered limited range (couldn't reach basement and had low bars between walls).  The wireless works fine for me, but wired would definitely be the fastest but its not really necessary on most games, because I rarely experience lag.

I use a wireless router from downstairs to upstairs, through a wall or two. It works fine, I think I get "Good" signal strength. I would recommend a wireless router, because you can use it for other computers in the house.

Wired as in you connect your Wii with an Ethernet cable to your router for maximum performance.
A wireless router should work fine though.

Yes but have to buy an adapter, it plugs into USB port in the back of your Wii, the you plug an Ethernet cable to the adapter and into the modem; but personally I recommend wireless for the Wii. :D

Well. Umm. Does the DS Lite have a built-in wireless switch, for Wi-Fi hotspots? If so, get a wireless router.
We all thought you were talking about a Wii.

You kind of forgot to mention that.

Nintendo WiFi USB Connector

Pros: Easy to install and set up.  Works well and won't have hicups.

Cons: Only works when the computer it is connected to is on.  Limited range.

Wireless Router

Pros:  Always on, large range.

Cons: Harder to set up.

So what should I do?
1) get a wireless router for both Wii and DS
2) or get wired just for the Wii

I don't know if they modified them, but I got mine before the Wii came out and they said you need a wi-fi one for the wii, but I used my DS one and it works fine.

The one I have is a white connector that plugs into the USB port.  They are everywhere, Best Buy gots them.

Yeah, I have one of them for my DS. I'll have to wait until I'm alone to move my Wii closer to my computer though....

You don't need the internet to update your Wii for Brawl. The update is initiated when you turn on Brawl for the first time.

And for the Wii Lan Adapter, you need a DSL Modem, an ethernet cable, a PC, and a Wii (duh.) :P

Well I think I know the reason why mostly everyone's wi-fi is not working.

The servers are overcrowded from everyone trying to get on at once.

That explains the "lag" and unablitily to get on wi-fi.
