Kinda surprised we haven't had a topic about this yet.
So, the game came out today, and I managed to get it along with the 3 amiibos for a pretty nice discount :D Love the game so far!
Splatoon's a lot of fun, hope it can keep the momentum though.
It should, considering the free DLC in August(?). Plus I'd be very surprised if they don't continue to add tons of new stuff and updates as the WiiU loses steam.
I won't be able to play this until fall :/ not getting a wii U until I move into my apartment for next year
Probably better off, most reviews say it seems largely unfinished and waiting on a lot of promised content.

QuoteThere is a lot to like about Splatoon, we swear. The core experience, with the uzi gun class equipped and lots of puddles to quickly swim through, has no online-gaming peer, while the colorful art style, wiggly squid animations, and DJ-meets-acoustic-guitars soundtrack will charm players who loved the likes of Jet Set Radio. We think this game would be a no-brainer if it received substantive changes, including weapon balancing, range increases, more arenas, more modes, quick loadout-swap options, friend matchmaking, and any form of team communication.
Verdict: Buy it... whenever Nintendo finishes it.
So far I've been having a lot of fun. It's a very innovative way to look at the shooter genre, and it's definitely nothing we've ever seen before. It also has pretty neat Miiverse functionality, which is rare for most games. Only thing I would like to see is more maps and stuff, but that's of course going to come later. At least it will be in the form of free updates instead of paid DLC, and I seriously love that approach.
Unless it leads to releases of "unfinished" games, a la EA. Let's hope this is a one-time occurrence.
Hey, at least the DLC is free, and will com out on (I think) a weekly basis.
Well, I still think the game should be, well, more fleshed out and finished upon release. DLC is nice, especially when free, but it's more annoying if you feel like you're missing part of the game instead of getting more content to already a good amount of it.

That's kinda reassuring, haha. Though I'm still happy in general that Nintendo's finally caught on to the whole "updating games with competitive aspects to avoid balance issues" thing.
Yeah. From what I've heard the Rollers are ridiculously OP.
Nah rollers aren't that OP considering they're so close range that you can easily get a few shots in with a regular weapon before they even get you.
But a few shots with a normal weapon normally won't kill the guy about to steamroll you.
Whatever, man, I just want to get the game already!

it has in my experience lmao
I'm planning to get the Splatoon Wii U as I don't even have the system yet, but that's 300$ plus another hundred for Hyrule Warriors and Smash bros, not even including Mewtwo.
Are the amiibos really necessary?

I take it my lengthy experience fighting as/against demoknights in TF2 will come in handy in this game

No, but I've heard they are a nice addition.
And higher quality than the Sm4sh to boot.
Got the game today!
In case you haven't heard, A new map and the NES zapper are coming tonight.
Gawd this game is GOOD. It'd be a solid reason for me to finally get internet! XD
I took it to a friend's house and after getting the roller, I dominated the field by rolling dudes and splatting EVERYTHING. I don't even play FPS games ever, yet it's SO easy to play! Cheers to intuitive controls! If I can play it, everyone else can! :P
I usually hate FPS games, but this one works fabulously. I reckon it's the motion controls, actually. I can't play Halo or anything with a joy-stick at all, so I'd put it down to that. Shooters on a PC work pretty well, but this setup trumps all! :D
The roller is ridiculously fun, I'm enjoying rolling people (er, squids?) over.

EDIT:
Also, the Miiverse community for this game appears to be pretty... interesting, for lack of a better word.
who would want to do that for 10 minutes

Is this game multiplayer only? I'm seriously considering buying it but I'm not sure if I'm willing to shell out $60 for a game to play solely online (since I don't have any local multiplayer people available)
There is a single-player campaign. It's fairly short but fun and challenging. The main draw of the game is the multiplayer though.
About 80% of the game is all online matches. There's a limited local 2-player mode and and single player campaign, plus Amiibo stuff, but you'll easily spend most of the game online.
There could be more to come later, but it'll still likely be all online content.
Meanwhile, I don't have internet. :P
I've been playing the story-mode and it's great! Heaps of fun, especially since there are human-like CPU's once you get towards Zone 3. Plus, I've got all three amiibos, so I'll be doing every level again with each different one to unlock moar weapons!! :D
So I might pick this up soon, but I have a couple of questions: can two players play in online matches in a similar style of that of Mario Kart 8? And a silly one that has me very concerned though, can you pick any color you want for the ink or it's only orange/purple/light blue?!
I'll most probably get it regardless of that stuff, but just to make sure. :p

Oh, I see... oh well, I was thinking you had a menu where you could select any color for your ink. Maybe in the future. Thanks for the reply :J
Hopefully that's a thing in the future, as well as picking friends-only matches.

Friends-only lobbies are confirmed for August, afaik. We may learn more at e3?
Oh, really? Sweet.
Another stage launches tonight.
I'm pretty surprised with how quickly all the promised content is coming out.
I'm glad we're getting it quickly though.

You should totally get it now though with all the sweet stuff the update brought tho
I knoooow and I would but Steins;gate and Danganronpa Another Episode are both coming out at the end of this month and that's already 80 dollars and probably 100 hours I'll be spending on that...
So there's another testfire set for the weekend! Good for me, since I was scheduled to get a review copy of the game back in may only to never receive it or get a reason why... I would have bought it with my own money but of course my grandfather just had to find out about the review copy and banned me from buying the game for around a month (claimed Nintendo were super rude and disrespectful for not giving me a review copy even when I told him I wasn't entitled to one), when I had already spent my money on some of the Wave 4 amiibo at that point. Waited for the august update to get the "complete" game only to learn it wasn't "complete" so I bought a capture device with the saved money instead, as I'm still on the fence. Now I can test it out again to see if it's worth a buy come post Super Mario Maker launch

Does anyone who owns splatoon want to play?
Maestro and I are going to be streaming some Splatoon on Twitch in a little bit, but we'd prefer to have a full party of 8 so we can pick the map that we want. Does anyone want to join us?
*cough*
I'm ranked A- right now, hoping to get through a rank sooner or later. I think I might be good at this game
it almost time for splat

Is this a time-sensitive thing? Because if it is, my answer is no.
That, and I haven't even tried Ranked Battle yet, let alone League Battle
Just join discord and @mention me when you can play
