Title: Nintendo E3 2013

Maybe too soon to put this, but if you think about it E3 is not that far away! And I thought we could also use this topic to keep organized E3 news and stuff.

So yeah, what would you want to see on this year's E3? Any thoughts? Are you getting excited or you're a bit skeptical after last year?

First of all, I have to point out that last year's Nintendo E3 wasn't as disappointing as some people say. It was the beginning of a new generation with Wii U. And sure, we didn't see much game announcements, not very exciting news, but in the end we saw what we, may I say, "needed": more information about the Wii U and some demos that show the capabilities of the console.

That said, I start talking about why this E3, in my opinion, will be great. Well, I'd even say has to be great. With the recent announcement of the PS4 and probably the unveiling of the NextBox just around the corner, Nintendo can't disappoint people. If they do, they would be a little screwed up.

And how can Nintendo make people feel excited for the Wii U? Games! Tons of games from fan-favorite franchises and new unexpected ones. Nintendo has to prove why people should buy a Wii U. Does that mean Starfox? Yes. Metroid? Yes. F-Zero? Yes.
They have to show everything they have to counterattack the other companies' strategy and announcements.

I'd like to see:
- SSB Wii U and 3DS, but not just screenshots, a prototype short video and an official name would work like a charm to create hype.
- A lot of new game announcements and more information about games already announced (like Wind Waker U).
- Mario Kart U and an approximate release date.
- Nintendo classics reborn: Metroid, Starfox, and F-Zero. We also have Retro's secret project, which could be one of these.
- Zelda 3DS announcement: name, short video (demo?).
- Maybe it's too early, but something related with the new Zelda Wii U, something like the picture they put of Fi and Link some years ago for Skyward Sword.
- More Pokemon X and Y, and a new Pokemon game for Wii U (Stadium 3!).
- Even more unexpected and shocking announcements!

That's why I think this year's E3 will be one of the best one in years. The best Nintendo show-off yet has to be now or never! (http://youtu.be/dJ-QLl5qjLg)

After watching the Zelda announcement for the Wii U, I am pumped for the next release. I'm glad they decided to go back to the main stream Zelda type games.

Also, THANK YOU TWITTER. You made Miyamoto realize people wanted a new F-Zero game. I can't wait to see if they say anything about the topic in the upcoming E3. Doubt it, but It's something to look forward too.

After how great this last Luigi's Mansion was, I wouldn't mind seeing one again--although I suppose they don't want overkill. I have no doubt that there will be another one, I just doubt it will be for the 3DS.

Also, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney needs to be announced for the US, as does Ace Attorney 5 and--failing the former--Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies.

Oh, and Zero Escape 3! If we have to wait ANOTHER three years between installments, I'll go insane.

I dsaid this before and I'll say it again, I have high hopes for the Wii U. Developers have had kits for well over a year now, so I think we can expect some unique and original content besides the usual Nintendo Franchise stuff.

High hopes, only time will tell if we will be let down.

I want to see the next LoZ title, and as Slow said, see some PL vs AA news! I hope we get a release date, or at least news on it.... I'd like to see better Wii U titles, because I'm still not completely sold on one just yet other than Pikmin 3 or the HD remake of Wind Waker.

I wouldn't mind a new Super Mario Galaxy...
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 2013 - Wishlists and comments
Post by: SlowPokemon on April 02, 2013, 01:27:18 PM
I think they did everything they could do with the first two; a third might just feel repetitive. However, I would enjoy a new Super Mario platformer--Super Mario 3D Land was fun and all, but it was pretty much just New Super Mario Bros. in a 3D setting. There was no strategy and it just felt like casual play. I want a true sequel to the other 3D platformers--Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and the Super Mario Galaxy games--where you hunt for stars rather than just walk around until you hit the flagpole.
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 2013 - Wishlists and comments
Post by: Nebbles on April 02, 2013, 02:28:14 PM
I'd like more games like that indeed - working for stars is better, and offers more challenges. Frustrating or not, it's good gameplay and it's a brilliant feeling of accomplishment. SM64 was annoying to beat, and the last few levels were hell for me, but when I got all the stars I felt awesome. Same for the final star in Galaxy 2.

I want that feeling in my Mario games. That sense of accomplishment and pride after getting certain stars. I don't need another "get to the flagpole with rehashed backgrounds and music".
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 2013 - Wishlists and comments
Post by: MaestroUGC on April 02, 2013, 02:37:04 PM
The 3D games were always about earning stars, the more conventional platformers followed the original spirit of "Getting to the goal" of the NES/SNES series. Super Mario 3D Land was an extension of that, if the title didn't give it away, for some reason. (Remember Super Mario Land?)
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 2013 - Wishlists and comments
Post by: SlowPokemon on April 02, 2013, 03:31:49 PM
Well yeah, but the developers stated that the reason they used that name was because Super Mario Land was the first Super Mario game on a handheld, and Super Mario 3D Land was the first 3D Mario game on a handheld. Still though, 3D Land was fun as hell, just very very casual gameplay as opposed to 64 or the Galaxies.
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 2013 - Wishlists and comments
Post by: Nebbles on April 02, 2013, 04:26:00 PM
The Galaxies are my favorite (I want to play them now but alas, schoolwork!!!) and I loved their gameplay and the fact it provided an actual challenge, as I said before.

I am curious as to what the pokemon game for the Wii U will be... I hope it's good...

I really do hope they have a new franchise to surprise us, kinda like they did with Pikmin.  That would be sweet.

And Slow, you are 100% right.  Man I miss 64.

I think he means how Pikmin was brand new and kind of blind sided us because Nintendo is well known to simply expand on their current franchises. Pikmin was a new franchise, and it'd be cool to see something innovative like that again.

Retro are supposed to announcing something that "We've all been waiting for." People think it's Banjo-Kazooie, but I think it may be a 3D Donkey Kong game, similar to DK64. Or a DK64 remake. Banjo-Kazooie just seems too... (I can't believe I'm about to say this) dead.

Quote from: blueflower999 on April 03, 2013, 04:10:41 PMBut doesn't Microsoft own the Banjo Kazooie tittle?
Well, technically Rare owns B-K, and Microsoft owns Rare, so it's a vicarious ownership. There was a rumor that Nintendo had bought B-K's ip and had given it to Retro, but since Retro turned Grant Kirkhope down (The composer for B-K), it's highly unlikely that Retro are working on a B-K. Nintendo was supposedly interested in buying Rare back, but it's been a while and hope has been lost. Unless Microsoft is holding on to them like a bar of gold since Rare is their best appeal to younger markets. Plus Kinect Sports was made by Rare, so they could hardly take that from Micro.

There is still a chance that Nintendo will go, "What the hell," and buy Rare/B-K and make B-K just for the fans since ever since Nuts and Bolts, everyone's been screaming for a true B-K 3. Who knows? Miyamoto may be sitting there going, "Hee hee. Just wait my pretty's!"

As much as I love Rare, the magic they once had is long since gone. Most of the people who made it great left the copmany, though Kirkhope once suggested that there was a time where a bunch of them considered just making Banjo-Threeie themselves.

Banjo-Kazooie had a hell of a run, but if any news about a new game comes out I'll be tentative but anxious.

More than 1 non-gimmick game

Something that makes the Wii-U actually look like something I would want to buy

And no, it won't be banjo.  Microsoft owns the IP along with the rest of Rare and there is no indication that they were getting rid of that anytime soon.  Grant Kirkhope has recently said that he would love for ex-Rare to come together to make a sequel, which tells me that there isn't anything even in consideration for a long time.  Unless they were going to make a game without Grant Kirkhope, in which case I wouldn't want to buy it.

I expect to see Smash formally announced, perhaps Zelda hinted at, and that they will finally show that Retro game you were discussing.  Maybe they'll finally have another Mario game worth playing and not New Super Mario Bros 25: Rainbow Edition, and I would love to see a surprise new Star Fox game.

You need to get over New Super Mario Bros., they're outrageously fun and I don't care if they do release 25, I never get tired of Mario side-scrollers. Of course they're all extensions of the same material, but if the material is fantastic to begin with there's nothing wrong with that. It's okay to have casual games that don't require a lot of thought.

I don't gev why people don't like the NSMB series, sure they're simple and easy to make, but that's the point. They're meant to be simple fun rides with familiar gameplay. Besides, Nintendo has to make games like that so they can get money to make the next great 3D Mario platformer.

There's still going to be a new Mario game, and a new Zelda, whether it's this year or next. I want to see something totally new, not something we know is coming anyway.

The NSMB games are fun, but they tend to make the same game, with a few tweaks, on a different console or whatever. So they're okay, but.... overdone.
Title: Re: Nintendo E3 2013 - Wishlists and comments
Post by: KefkaticFanatic on April 06, 2013, 06:37:55 PM
That, and they are made to be overly casual.  All of them are far too easy and better off as party games where you all just dick off and throw people around.

Which I guess is part of the draw but ehhh it's the same game being rereleased over and over so I'm done with it.  Super Mario 3D land is a fantastic example of how they can keep the basic formula but change it up a bit to be interesting, new, and fun, which is exactly what they don't do with every NSMB release.  Though it's pretty easy so far too, eh.

You cannot tell me you love Super Mario 3D Land but hated Super Mario Galaxy. Just what.

Also yeah 3D Land is super easy in the first eight worlds, kind of challenging in the second eight. You won't be too stuck with this game, it isn't that difficult to 100%.

So much this D: Nintendo would be stupid not to localize the game... I'm not feeling hopeful, though, especially considering the fact that they announced Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies, which was released in Japan after Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, before so much as acknowledging PLvAA.

With Layton having such a big audience, it's the perfect way to get North American players into the Ace Attorney world before the 5th game comes out. Plus, AA has a pretty big cult following in North America.

I mean, if they're localizing the new installments of both Professor Layton and Ace Attorney, it doesn't make sense not to localize the crossover.

If you're talking about Mother 2/EarthBound, that took 18 years.

I'd be kind of worried if AA:DD's reception is important, seeing as there's already backlash from it being announced as a Download-only title. Then again, wouldn't Layton's developers have a say in localizing it too? So I would think it would be brought over due to Layton's popularity even without taking into account Capcom's worries for Ace Attorney.

Why? I mean, do you think a SSB game can fit in a portable system? I'm afraid the 3DS version would be limited compared to the Wii U version. Either that, or... the Wii U version would be downgraded to be on par with the 3DS version.

I don't like the idea of "exclusive" things of the Wii U/3DS version either. Besides, if you want to boost Wii U sales, why would you release the same game on 3DS too? :P

I'm very skeptical about the 3DS version yet... We'll see if they say something next week either way.

I'm pretty sure they've already said it would be for 3DS. And also, look at Kid Icarus Uprising. That game has fantastic graphics and multiplayer which both are probably more difficult to put on a portable handheld than a smash title.

I'm really glad that Nintendo is on a different time frame of console generations from Xbox and Sony. I really enjoyed my Xbox 360 (never owned a PlayStation), but this new Xbox One coming out is just... Idk. If it's what the reviews are saying, then I know I ain't buying one. I mean, come on! What about stores like GameStop? A lot of GameStop's income is from their their used and owned game sales (but it's still a video game shop, so it won't go out of business). Not only that, we won't be able to trade in our games. PlayStation isn't doing much better either, from what I've read. Nintendo will be laughing in their throne when third party companies come crawling over. But anyway, back on to the topic of Nintendo related stuff...

Super Smash Bros 4 being created by Namco Ban Dai? Amazing. I don't know much about Sora, but Ban Dai has made some of my favoritest games, from the Soul Calibur games to the Dragon Ball games. My hopes are set to the max for this game ;D

Pikmin 3 looks pretty awesome, that's a game I'll definitely be buying. It looks like it has more strategy involved.

As usual, I'm always expecting a word on F-Zero, but that more than likely won't happen.

There's so much to expect, it's nerve racking! COME ON E3, START ALREADY!

Nintendo knows what it's doing. It's been doing it the longest and has seen the likes of Atari and Sega rise and fall. Hopefully, it will continue to do so.

They really should bring back ALL characters that have appeared in the first 3 games plus 6 or 7 new. That'd be so awesome.

Quote from: SlowPokemon on June 07, 2013, 10:50:09 AMReally? I thought Brawl was a huge improvement over Melee, including the stages.

Melee stages were ok, but Brawl ones are the real thing. I don't care what people say, but New Pork City is one of my favorite stages ever!

Also, idea! I think they should call it Super Smash Bros. Universe, I mean, it's the perfect name!

But not just that! It'd called Universe for something right? Well, I'd like to see the map of the adventure mode with various franchise universes. Example: Mario Universe, it would have some stages of course, and the bosses and enemies would be from the Mario series. I am a little disappointed in Brawl because the only enemies of a franchise you could see were Koopas, Goombas, Hammer Bros... Only Mario enemies, you know what I mean. But no Waddle Dees or Space Pirates or Octoroks.

The story could be something like: Someone (the main enemy, like Tabuu) is conquering entire universes, and for example, you start on the Mario Universe. Once you've defeated the boss of the Universe, you would have access to a portal that leads to more universes (another thing is that the conqueror is using some special portals to communicate universes, and this could also explain why in Brawl all characters are in the same island with no real reason; because they were sent there by the conqueror so he could conquer their universes more easily while they were busy battling Tabuu).

So, you'd have to go liberating universes and encountering more characters as you continue (something like Brawl, but with more sense). Example: after clearing Mario universe you go to the Pokemon Universe, and there you would recruit Mewtwo, the Pokemon Trainer, Jigglypuff, Pikachu etc...

Of course, you'd have the choice to follow different paths, and hidden special stages on each universe are guaranteed (for example, you can go back to the Mario Universe to do secret stages with hidden enemies and bosses).

The conqueror would also be resurrecting bosses from each franchise to help him, so that would explain the presence of already dead enemies.

And in the end, you'd go to the Final Universe, homeland of the conqueror.

So this is my idea of the perfect SSB4, what do you think?

Okay just a small point here--there is no conceivable way they'd bring back all or even most of the previous characters, not least because the 3DS might not be able to handle that much. I'm guessing all the characters that were in the original Super Smash Bros., plus MAYBE a few major ones from Brawl, plus some from newer Nintendo games. Also there's the question of Sonic and Snake.

If you want a HUGE game, you need a pretty decent amount of memory. If not, limitations, limitations and more limitations, like less characters, like you say. I even can imagine Sakurai saying "we didn't really add "x" character because there was not enough memory left".

Also, edited my previous post and added an idea on the story mode.

At a quick glance, I see:

Kirby
Meta Knight
Mario
Luigi
Wario
Link
Pit
Samus (notably without the power suit)
A Pikmin
Pikachu
Mr. Game and Watch
Mr. Saturn
The Sandbag
Whoever that is above Pit
Fox McCloud
Donkey Kong
Master Hand

Also, Blueflower, I think it's reasonable to hope that Mega Man could be in it. After all, they've been going on a spree of releasing Mega Man games on the 3DS eShop lately.

Also I think Professor Layton is more plausible now than he was for Brawl. At the time Brawl was released, the only Professor Layton game that had been released was Curious Village, less than a month before Brawl was released. Now, however, with five games out and a sixth one announced, there might be more of a possibility.

I personally think that it might be more probable that the Layton series is represented like Animal Crossing was in Brawl: a stage, some items, some Assist Trophies, Stickers, music, and the like.

Layton as a playable character would be difficult to design considering how much of a gentleman he is.

Actually JDMEK, you bring up a point I've thought of.  What I would love to see is an announcement about some way to connect the Wii U and the 3DS.  Kind of like the GC-GBA connectivity, with the same level of ingenuity and a higher level of accessibility (wireless).  This could open up so many amazing possibilities.  What if they made a huge multiplayer Fire Emblem game where the TV showed the huge battle, the GamePad showed battle stats and stuff like that, and everybody with 3DSs could zoom in on the combat, maybe take control of specific units.  Or there are SO many genius ways they could do a Layton game with that connectivity.  The list goes on.

"While some suggest this new project is likely to be a return to the Metroid franchise, we'd love to see another Nintendo hero get the retro stamp of excellence. After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it's time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind."
- Retro Studios, interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, January 2012

Took an old quote from Retro. Could this mean their project really is a new Starfox? Or it's just a casual coincidence?
Anyways, one thing's for sure, there's no better time to fully announce it than this E3.

Starfox, Metroid or whatever, it seems to be a huge game!
Just 2 more days and we will finally find out.

The game itself looks awesome! But never gonna buy it because you're forced to buy separate toys to unlock more characters (same thing goes for Pokemon Rumble U).

I hate that. I HATE IT. And it's a real bummer, since looks very nice.

Final day, finally! Quick, last bets? Here are mine:

- Retro's project is Starfox. I'm calling it. Release date announced not at E3, later.
- Super Mario 3D trailer and demo. Release date: maybe holidays 2013.
- Mario Kart 3D trailer and demo, too. Release date: with Super Mario U, to boost sales even more on holidays 2013.
- More Wind Waker HD. Final release date, playable demo of Windfall Island (since it appears to be modeled already) with some
little sailing to find out the new sailing controls.
- F-Zero U. Also calling it. Just a trailer, nothing else.
- Monolith's X, approximate release date (mid-2014?), long trailer and official name.
- Metroid U, Prime style. Short trailer. Release date not announced.
- 3rd sonic game. Release late 2014. Lost World: holiday 2013.
- Kingdom Hearts III also coming to Wii U (I hope...)
- Announcement of an account system for Nintendo Network. More details at a later date.
- GC games finally confirmed for Virtual Console, and maybe Ambassador Program for early Wii U adopters.
- Not much about Zelda U, maybe a picture. Release date mid/late-2015.
- Surprising new exclusive Wii U game/s (something like Bayonetta 2).
- SSB official name, short trailer and release date late 2014, if not 2015.

Regarding 3DS, not as much as with the Wii U:

-Lots of X & Y stuff.
-Lots of ALttP2 stuff.

OMFGGGGGGGG SSB TRAILER. SAKURAI, YOU THE BOSS. But seriously, villager? You better add 10 more cool characters to compensate for it. Don't saying it's bad but... there are better character out there that would be better for SSB. The Newcomer trailers were godly wonderful, specially the 2nd one. (don't want to spoil)

Spoiler
Also: (no particular order)

1. NO WAY RETRO'S BEEN WORKING ON SOMETHING SUPER SECRET FOR + 2 YEARS AND IT'S ANOTHER DONKEY KONG. NO WAY.
I STILL BELIEVE THEY'RE WORKING ON STARFOX DAMMIT. Besides, Donkey Kong is not "another hero", it's the same one. IT HAS TO BE FOX! THEY WILL ANNOUNCE IT SOONER OR LATER.

2. Super Mario 3D World looks interesting. But Cat Mario?! WTF?! It's awesome, but weird!
The SUPER AWESOME THING about this is the multiplayer. Really like it. THIS is what we needed instead of NSMBU back then.

3. Bayonetta 2. Why does it have to release next year again?

4. A little bit disappointed with Monolith's X still called simply "X". Anyways, the game itself looks incredible.

5. No F-Zero after all... Or Metroid... Or Wario... Maybe next time.

6. MEGAMAN IN SSB!!!! I WANTED HIM THERE SINCE MELEE!!! AND HIS TRAILER IS SUPER AWESOME! OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!! AND DAT WILY STAGE! XD
Still not happy with the 3DS version so far. 100% chances I'm buying the Wii U version.

7. MARIO KART 8! OMFG! THEY DID IT! THEY ADDED SOMETHING REALLY NEW! Was that really possible? I believe some people at Nintendo are just magic... BUT WHY SPRING 2014!? I WANT IT NOW! DX

8. Wind Waker HD looks schweet! But I don't really like that blue "HD" below the logo. :P
[close]

I give this presentation a 9. Had enough things to get excited for, but a little bit more unexpected really breathtaking news an it would've been perfect. For example, what's really Retro's secret project? Tell us already! Iwata didn't say it was DKCRTF (so many letters) per se anyways. It HAS to be Starfox. It HAS to be. I'm sure.

My thoughts:

-Pokemon X & Y: Looks absolutely great to my untrained eye.  The only problem I have is the Pokemon-Amie.  That looks retarded.

-Super Mario 3D World: This was a bit of a disappointment.  The game will be good, I know, but Slow put it well when he called it a "3D version of New Super Mario Bros."  I really just want a full 3D game.

-Mario Kart 8: Bring it.  Who needs gravity?

-Wii Party U: Meh.  I don't really see much difference between this and the Mario Party series, so it doesn't look terribly compelling.

-Wii Fit U: No footage.  I don't think this one will as heavy a hitter as the Wii version.

-Art Academy U: This shows a lot of foresight on Nintendo's part.  I'm interested to see where they take this.

-3rd party games: That was a good montage.  Hopefully this will help the Wii U along.

-eShop games: Meh.  Quality is decidedly taking a turn for the worse.

-The Wind Waker HD: Looks gorgeous.  The Tingle bottle idea is genius, although I still hold to my last post, that if they made a way to connect 3DS it would open up so many new options.  This is an example.  Oh yeah, did you guys notice the speed boost while sailing?  :D

-The Wonderful 101:  This looks stinking awesome.  Looks like a lot of crazy, high quality fun.

-DKCTF: Looks good, but that's the problem.  Just good.  I am honestly tired of Nintendo being a platformer assembly line.  There's just so much DK and Mario, I want new, innovative games!  The 3DS really hit the spot with Dark Moon and Awakening.  I want to see the Wii U do that too.  Metroid, Star Fox, Kirby, and F-Zero.  That's all you need to make Wii U a hit, Nintendo.

-Bayonetta 2: This should be good for Wii U.  Looks crazy.

-X: Looks even better.  Make this a system seller, please.

-Smash Bros 4: 3DS visuals bother me.  Also, I really wish they would stop bringing in 3rd-party characters.  It'll still be an awesome game though.

-NSLU: Great.

-Pikmin 3:  Better and better every time they show it.  I am so pumped for this.

-Dream Team: This will be AWESOME.  Nintendo can easily make this one of the best games for the system.

-Yoshi's New Island: MEh.  Same problem with DKCTF.

-A Link Between Worlds:  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Wait, what? The Mega Man trailer was the most epic thing I have seen in a long time. They incorporated a great variety of powers from the previous games. Also, you can't possibly expect every single character in Smash 4 to be 100% Nintendo made.

By the way, the Metal Blade is so cheap in Mega Man 2 that it might as well be his final smash.

I agree with Sakurai on not adding a lot of third party characters, but Mega Man is reasonable because he has his origins in the NES. Anyways, if you don't add more third party characters, at least add good first party ones!

I like the Wii Fit Trainer. She was something completely unexpected. Sure, it's a bit silly to add her but it's not like Smash Bros is the most serious franchise ever.

Mega Man and the Villager are nice additions too.

As for the other news, I'm disappointed in Retro working on Donkey Kong Country, mostly because with all the hype behind it I was expecting something...different. Plus I need a new Metroid game, damn it.

One thing I'd like to hear announced is a proper account system for the Nintendo systems. I'm slightly nervous when I carry my 3DS around as if I lose it, I lose all my eShop titles too. It seems Nintendo is always a bit behind in the online features they create.

Not too fond of the 3D Mario yet. It feels more like a 3D New Super Mario Bros rather than Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy. I would've liked the latter instead.

Also with all the "2014" titles it seems Wii U will still lack a 'killer app' for a while now.

I was so convinced Retro was working on Starfox that I got my hopes way too high. Now I can't believe there's no Starfox.

Either way, it's hard to believe that that top-secret project Retro has been working on for more than two years is another Donkey Kong Country.

Is that really the "game everyone wanted them to do"? Is that the real "different kind of barrel roll" they talked about? Please...
As long as Retro doesn't confirm there's no Starfox, I will believe there's Starfox somewhere.

My thoughts exactly. This 2nd half of 2013 will not be as good as I expected. I can't see the Wii U finally taking off until 2014.

When it comes to the Trainer's names (Xavier and Yvette), those might not be the actual names in-game, considering that Black/White pre-release information used the names Blair and Whitlea for the main characters, but then they ended up being Hilbert and Hilda.

And what source told you about the dodging/critical hits part?

Alternatively, the competitive fanbase could just not bond with their Pokemon so that there's no critical hit/evasion boosting involved. You know, to tone down the luck factor.

Quote from: Echo on June 11, 2013, 07:14:28 PMAlternatively, the competitive fanbase could just not bond with their Pokemon so that there's no critical hit/evasion boosting involved. You know, to tone down the luck factor.
That would destroy the purpose of what I like to call "the Colress factor". It's meant to bring out the full potential of your Pokemon. ::)

But I want to bond with my Pokemon, but not with all of them since it seems so much work :(

The Q&A: again, idk how reliable this person is (I believe them but I don't want to get you guys all excited) but they say it will all be posted tomorrow officially on the site
Spoiler
Q: Riding Pokemon - benefits? Diff from bike?
A: Sounds like you can 'borrow' Pokemon to traverse to destinations. Can help open paths too.

Some areas have different types of methods of getting around. (i.e. we've seen the grinding and so on). Depends on area. eg. The riding, rollerskates and rail grinding we've seen.

Flow of battles - seeing opponent's team ahead of time - is the same as before. You can select the song for the battle though.

Pokemon X&Y will read your registered friends list from the 3DS system, so the game will automatically have those people as your friends.

Q: New or old villain team? Form of rival?
A: "You can expect to see a Team 'Something'" There's a Rival, but maybe not just one.

Q: How does Mewtwo change form? Do you want him in Smash?
A: -long pause- Can't explain "Mewthree" Pokemon. Can't talk about other games. Sakurai just chimed in (joking) - "We're thinking about it."

Q: Didn't hear buuut..
A: Music will have different feel than past games bc it's less modified/compressed than in older games.

Q: Player movement appears to be 8-way. Why not full analog?
A: Keeping a grid-style bc of tracking Pokemon encounters. But freer movement.

Q: Depth of customization?
A: You can choose hair style, set appearance. PSS shows player icons so chose to allow for custom appearance.

Q: Considered tweaking EV and IV to make being competitive easier?
A: X&Y will make some of these ideas more visible and intuitive.

Q: Why base this location on France?
A: France has a focus on a beauty and that was a focus for X&Y. Wanted to see how to express.

Q: How many new Pokemon?
A: No comment.

Q: Explanation for Fairy type being discovered and applying to older Pokemon?
A: Dragon type has had an advantage. Wanted balance.

Q: Will there be DLC?
A: Hoped that wouldn't be asked, but they are exploring the possibilities. No announcements.

Q: Importing Pokemon from previous games?
A: They're working on it. DS/3DS comm. barrier is slightly tricky.

Q: Multiple save files?
A: No. Just one.

We helped out with Mario Kart 7. We helped Monster Games do the 3DS version. Sometimes we'll have a little bit of extra bandwidth to help out other entities at Nintendo. We really feel strongly about helping out Nintendo as a whole, so if we have time, we'll do that. Do we have the bandwidth to do two major projects at once? I don't think so. A big project and a little project at the same time, we can do that."

Both are French names.

Also the Nintendo Direct was alright, I guess... nothing new there, except for Fairy type/DKC/Smash trailer. I feel like the Wii U still lacks 3rd party support, which is a shame really. I will definitely be getting a Wii U, but I feel like I'll have to get a PS4 as well.

I actually think it's the flame blast. All the other weapons (except the Metal Blade, which was done intentionally to introduce his powers) had in-game footage to show off what it did. Except for the Flame Blast, which had a dramatic build-up and looked super overpowered. Ironic, seeing as the flame blast is super weak in MM6. BUT! It could happen!

That's his Down-Smash. The battle showed it doing like 45% damage once, but I'm not sure if it's going to be a strong attack like Peach's Down-Smash in Melee, or if that was just bad luck to the opponent because they didn't move away properly.

Anyways, as long as Marth returns, and as long as the gameplay isn't as slow and campy like Brawl's, then I don't think I'd care about whatever else they do with the game, because I love the art style for the 3DS version, and having Mega Man and Wii Fit Trainer as playable characters are awesome.

I agree, but it makes sense based on the platform.  Not to mention "for Wii U" and "for 3DS" don't theme themselves either.

Do you have any more suggestions for fighting-based names? Super Smash Bros. Combat sounds dumb.

I would've preferred Duel. As a pun on Dual. Because it's on two systems.

I think the "for Wii U/3DS" is supposed to be a pun though. Like, Smash Bros 4 - Wii U/3DS. Still a dumb title, but I still think it's better than Universe (which doesn't even relate to the 3DS).

I have the strangest feeling that the Animal Crossing villager and the WII fit trainer are not going to be out on the 3DS.  ??? I just visited the SSB4 website, and all the pictures from these 2 characters are for the WII U, not the 3DS. Unlike those, Megaman has a few 3DS pictures.
I don't know whether they will not appear. Just guessing.  :-\ :(

Dammit. Most likely my favorites will be cut. Well, good thing we reserved a spot for Animal Crossing guy and useless wii fit person.

I think the Wii Fit Trainer is very unique and could be a very cool player. Don't be bitter :P

Well, yeah, she does look cool-but I wouldn't want her at the expense of another character...

I totally agree with that. I'm just trying to make the best of the situation

I don't think we'll be seeing more cuts from the roster than we've come to expect at this point. Besides, the bigger the fan base for the characters, the more likely they'll return.

I sure hope they cut the misc. pokemon characters before Mr. Game&Watch and Olimar...

Mr. Game&Watch and Olimar for Life.

Besides they shuffle the pokemon line-up with each game. Honestly the game would do better with a tighter roster.

I'd rather they cut the clone characters (wolf, lucas, toon link, etc.)
