The Fixing the Sheets Project is an organized effort to bring each and every sheet of music on Ninsheetmusic up to the current standard. Most of the target sheets were submitted when the quality standard was non-existent.
A list of the sheets and their status can be found on the wiki (http://nsm.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Fixing_the_Sheets)
If I could get every arranger who is currently working on replacements to list all of their replacements currently in progress or currently not submitted so that we may get the editor sections up to date and then we'll be able to see which sheets are available.
Even if you can't arrange then you can help with checking sheets for errors so that arrangers have an easier job.
I'm not going to impose a limit but to maximize accuracy and keep the energy and momentum strong, I'm going to suggest only working on a few sheets at a time.
RolesQuality Assurance:The QA team checks the sheets for flaws in accuracy, notation, copyright information, composer/arranger information or formatting.
Arrangers:The arranger team will take the comments of the QA team or their own evaluation of a sheet and make the sheet the best that it can be.
PDF Converter:the PDF Converter Team will assist any arranger who is not able to make PDFs.
If you would like to help, please sign up for one or more of these roles.

Go winter! 8)
Cool! I'll start with the Metroid (the first game) songs and if I get them done, then I'll move along to anything else that hasn't been taken. :)
I have a question! If the actual song continuously repeats and the arranger hasn't put in the repeat back to the start, should I add it in or leave it out?
Add it in, please.
ALRIGHTY! All the Metroid songs that weren't taken are done! I've got all the different file types in each ZIP. :)
Metroid
Brinstar (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/Brinstar.zip) - Copyright info corrected, repeat to start added.
Escape Theme (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/EscapeTheme.zip) - Copyright info corrected, repeat to start added.
Item Found (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/ItemFound.zip) - Title formatting corrected.
Kraid's Lair (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/KraidsLair.zip) - Repeat to start added.
Ridley's Hideout (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/RidleysHideout.zip) - Composer name edited, metronome marking added, song speed edited, second part to right-hand added
Next, Metroid Fusion!
I'm going to wait until Shado gives the 'ok' that the section is completed. and I'll take another look and upload them
I can quality check! I might have time to fix some sheets, too!
Yeah, I've got some quality control notes/commentary on most of the pieces up through Prime. If you guys want to look at them I'll upload them. I can also take a listen at the rest of the songs and figure out what needs fixed on those.
As far as the songs I said I'd take, I'll get around to them.
Yeah, go ahead! I'll take a look at 'em. :)
I'll be an arranger if you need me.

take a peruse through the list for any marked available. once you pick a sheet or a few sheets look at it and identify any problems(such as incorrect notes, rhythms, formatting, etc.). the song is linked so you can compare the sheet to the original.
after that, if you so choose, you may arrange it and make the necessary corrections. if you feel you cannot arrange it, then feel free to post your evaluation of the sheet here so that an arranger may make the necessary corrections.
I'll arrange and check the sheets. Just tell me exactly which ones to do.

Hi guys! I've finished these two songs, but I have some questions about them. :)
Metroid Fusion:
Final Mission (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/FinalMission.zip) - I've edited quite a lot in this song to make it sound like the original, so is it fair so give myself some credit for this song by adding that it was modified by Joel Hands-Otte under the arranger's name?
Metroid Prime:
Artifact Acquisition Fanfare (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/ArtifactAcquisitionFanfare.zip) - Thisactual name is the for Artifact. I don't mean to be rude, but this arrangement was quite off. I completely changed the melodic line and added in the correct bass, which came to 4 bars, not 3. Technically, I've rewritten this piece and arranged it myself, so should I still keep it under Jimbabwe's name, add that I modified it or change it to being completely arranged by me?
I'd like to help with quality checking and convert PDF's.

Alright, I'll ignore my loss of sunglasses because I get Purple text :)
Hahaha! I guess my 3 titles makes up for your purpleness. :P
Looks to me like we both have 3 titles.
...Okay then, The Strongest. :P
Hey Winter, could you take a look at my questions above. What do you think I should do with the arranger/modifier problems?
You can add your name on the first one, and you can Change the name on the second sheet to your name.
Also, it was a Cirno Joke. :/
I'll be happy to arrange and do some QA. Might start off by claiming all mine that are on the site (some of them are god awful) but I think a fresh set of eyes would be appropriate for assessing them. So if anyone would be kind enough to send me some comments on my sheets I'll try my best to rearrange them asap. :)
Nice system you got going here btw.

yes fresh eyes are best because arrangers have a bias in songs they've worked on and thus neutral views provide the best feedback.
thank you.

I fear I may have assigned too many sheets to you at once. unless you want to, you can just look through 2 of them and i'll assign the other 2 to someone else.
I can tell you they all need work. Sometimes, measures are missing. Repeats and 1st and 2nd endings would work wonders on the pieces that generally repeat the same material the entire song. Parts are wrong too.
It'll take a lot to go through all 4. So yeah, if someone else wants to take 2, that's fine by me.
Here's my commentary on some of the Metroid sheets. (http://www.mediafire.com/?hq144egp984uk00)
If I get time, I might look over a few more sheets, especially if you guys find these notes helpful. I tried to keep them succinct, but that may have cost detail, so if I need to clarify anything, let me know.

So true! I've never played any Metroid games, and the only music I've heard from the series is from SSBB. :)
Also, I've changed the modifier/arranger names on those sheets. Just use the links on the previous page.

These sheets were great. Both were accurate, had dynamics, and followed correct tempo and time signature.

Magmoor Caverns (http://marioandluigi.wikidot.com/local--files/forum:thread/MagmoorCaverns.zip) - Formatting issue fixed, speed corrected, melodic line altered, right-hand lower part added, bass chords edited, incorrect notes fixed, incorrect rythms fixed, missing parts added, playability corrected, modifier added.
I'll get to looking over the submitted revisions soon.
but i'd like to offer up an idea for everyone to discuss.
would you like to have a live discussion reviewing 1 or more sheets?
i'm thinking we could do this on tinychat(not concerto's). I could stream the sheet while everyone else has it open in finale or finale reader(preferably the former). we'd first start out with a general overview, noting any major problem areas. after that we'd have a measure by measure look or something. anyone with a piano nearby their computers and has access to a microphone could try to play parts that look difficult and see if they're possible.
I haven't really thought this through too much. I'd like to get everyone's ideas on all of the things that we should discuss.
I like it! :D

I'd be ok with the chat thing too. I know I haven't been here for a while, but that would be a good way to really critique a sheet fully. I'd just need to know how to get on as I've never done that before.

This thread is currently focusing on Metroid. Your Zelda sheet has nothing to do with it. Put it in your arrangements thread, and Shado can work on it there.
Quote from: Shadoninja on November 29, 2011, 03:29:32 PMif you could post it here that would be lovely. even though we're concentrating our efforts on the metroid section, that doesn't mean we won't also look at other sheets should they be fixed.

There's another Fixing the sheets thread that focuses on all of ours.
And I didn't read that, but I guess since it's his thread, it's his choice.

I have no problem with it however I can see how it may make this thread cluttered. Perhaps we could use the other thread for non-focus sheet replacement discussion. Would everyone else be fine with that?

Artifact Acquisition Fanfare
It's not really necessary, but I think a Bb could be added in the key signature. I think it makes it look nicer. Otherwise, it's good.
Brinstar
I agree with Sekter here. I don't think the repeats and key changes are necessary either. The repeats should be removed and the section to be repeated be added back into it.
The right hand of measures 13 and 17 are impossible as is. Holding down the note in layer 1 and playing the notes in layer 2 gets difficult with the third note in layer 2. The tied note in layer 1 could be turned into a rest.
I think the duration of the notes in layer 2 should be extended to two beats.
This next point is redundant since the repeats should be removed, but that last repeat does not, in practice, go to the beginning. Repeat signs go to the nearest forward repeat. So even though it's assigned to go to measure 1, the performer should go back to the repeat sign in measure 7.
Escape Theme
I think the tempo should be Quarter = 150 . The time signature could also be 12/8 to keep it consistent with Brinstar. If the time signature is changed to 12/8, the tempo would be a dotted note.
It would seem that Metroidhunter misspelled his own username. It should be "MetroidHunter26"not "MetoridHunter26".
The natural sign in measure 16 is covered by the notes. Use the selection tool and hit CTRL+A to select the entire sheet and then change the music spacing by going to "Utilities → Music Spacing → Apply Note Spacing to Current Part/Score(CTRL+4)" and then updating it in "Utilities → Update Layout(CTRL+U)". I recommend doing this with every sheet.
Measure 18 - The duration of the B in the right hand could be extended to 3 beats and have the G D B D notes in another layer. I think that sounds nicer than what's written. The same thing could be applied to measures 21-23 but in measure 23 having the first set of triplets removed for playability.
I don't think the repeats here are necessary. Remove the repeats, add measures where repeated parts occur, remove the last 8 measures, and then add a repeat at the end.
Final Mission
Measure 1, 5, 9, 29 – The tied quarter notes should be replaced with half notes.
In Measure 2, 6, and 30 - I think it would work better if the chords were in layer 1 and the single F# on beat 4 should be on layer 2. the chord would be turned into a dotted half in this case.
Measure 10 – I don't think that G Bb chord needs to it's own separate entity. The G Bb C# chord could be turned into a dotted half Also I think the Bb would be better spelled as an A#.
Measure 15, 16, 23, 24 – the second quarter note needs to be split into tied eighths/quavers so we can clearly see beat 2 and 3.
Measure 24-28 – The rhythms in the left hand should be simplified. For example, tied eighths/quavers from the "and of 1" and "on 2" should be simplified to a quarter. Same goes for the "and of 3" and "on 4".
Measure 26 – I see no reason why the C natural is tied.
There should not be any dotted rests in a simple measure.
I believe pickup rules state that any beats missing from the beginning must be added to the end. I think adding a half rest and quarter rest at the beginning should be sufficient since we really can't add anything to the end without it looking strange.
Item Found
I think the C and A should be extended to one beat and the rest should be put in the second layer.
I feel two beats is too short for the ending. Perhaps it could be extended to 3 or 4 with ties to the next measure.
A trill should be added. I think it trills to G.
Kraid's Lair
Like in Brinstar, the repeats just go to the nearest forward repeat instead of the beginning. I don't think the repeats are all that necessary.
At measure 9, it goes from a 6/8 piece to a... 6/8 piece. Looking at the difference in time signature menus, the beginning starts with 6 ungrouped eighths/quavers, while the other has them grouped into dotted quarters. It'd be best to change them to one uniform time signature.
Ridley's Hideout
I think there should be a key signature here. The ones that I find work best here are Bb Minor for the first 4 measures and then C# Minor for the last 4.
Alrighty! Consider it done. I'll have them fixed as soon as possible. :)

34.5 hours remain. I'd like to post the update with all the Metriod replacements by mid-day January 1st my time.
I'm pulling an all nighter to make this happen. It should be a very nice update. As shado has said, any help will be appreciated, and you will be mentioned in the post for your help.
we've started a skype group for all of the discussions. If you would like to be added, send a contact request to either me(shado.ninja) or winter(winterkid09) and we'll add you in.

I'd have finished my QA duties by now, but I'm currently not feeling well at all and probably won't be able to check those sheets in time for a replacement to be made before the deadline. :( Letting you know, Shado, so that maybe you can pass the checking on if the deadline is to be met? yeah but can we not do these powerfixing-all-nighters again? I still feel terrible for assigning work to others and then doing it myself.
Heh. That's a deal. I'll make sure to plan ahead next time.
Poll Added, smaller sections included.
Sign me up for all duties. I may have to resign from a couple if I get way too busy of course.
But if all goes well, I should be able to keep these positions for quite a while.
I basically just said the latter part to let you know that nothing is set in stone.
But I'm psyched! Let's do this!
I'd like to quality check sheets. If you need help in that department...
So I've been working on my sheets. Hydro Dynamo repeats things in almost a random order. Should the sheet account for this or is it alright that since all the music included in the arranged piece, the piece can stand as is?
The piece still needs a few musical edits and format rehashes whichever the case may be.
And for Sanctuary Fortress, only a few changes need to be made. Sometimes, the range for one clef gets too high or too low and either needs 8va/8vb or a clef change. Some of the 16th note pickups are missing too later in the piece when they begin, such as 6th page, 2nd system, 2nd measure. The spacing is messed up in the bass at times as well. The line sometimes jumps the octave randomly, though I'm sure that the arranger was trying to compensate for the high range.

Don't worry, Winter. Most of us can already play at least 8 songs from that section, anyways!
Aka Lost Woods, Minuet of Forest, Bolero of Fire, Serenade of Water, Requiem of Spirit, Nocturne of Shadow, Prelude of Light, and Zelda's Theme.
I'm also half-way through Lost Woods Virtuoso, even if that's not on the site anymore.
Jub didn't you just learn Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C# minor?
How in the world did you make a jump to Maestro's Lost Woods Virtuoso??
Oh, I started learning Lost Woods Virtuoso a long time ago, it's been a while since I've played it though.
I'm also still learning Rachmaninoff. :P

looks like our next section is going to be The Legend of Zelda.
It's quite a big section so perhaps we could only look over a select few of them. What's everyone's opinion on the matter?
I'm in. And i think...
I think that because it's such a big section that more people would be familar enough to be able to arrange them. Besides if we're going to be fixing the sheets until they're all perfect, then why should we put Zelda aside just because it's big? Sure it'll take a while, but it's got to be done and it may aswell be done now. That's what I think, anyway.
Also sign me up! My Zelda knowledge may be limited to four games, but I think I may be able to help.
gaaah i missed the vote!! that sucks. Anyways, I'm glad we're doing these big sections before we lose enthusiasm, and i also hope that we do Super Smash Bros after the Legend of Zelda!

-Game Over
And I have replacements for all of my own sheets as well.
I know that me and DekuTrombonist had some Ocarina of Time replacements a while back. Guess we can finally use those!
I know that I have Goron City, Gerudo Valley, Kaepora Gaebora, and Horse Race lying around. I think I've still got one of Kokiri Forest and maybe a couple of others as well.
Other wise, I'd say we should re-do Wind Waker and Twilight Princess because they're probably going to be more popular (and because the formatting on most of them is pretty bad), but otherwise I don't think anyone's really looked at the portable games so they are in need of just as much help probably. I suppose I can work on Link's Awakening replacements. I'll post my thoughts on them sometime next weekend.

Don't worry about it! It's not a big deal. Anyway, I went ahead and took a look at the first 2 Link's Awakening sheets and did some simple changes.

Just an arranger.

I am currently using the Zelda section for sightreading, and I have to say, there are a couple sheets that sounds as if someone forgot a key change, and other sheets I can tell there's an ommited accidental. I forgot which sheets though, I think it was a Hyrule Field. I'll post them when I see them again.
Put me down for both, unless you HAVE to have a specific deadline for them to be done. I have no idea when i'm gonna be able to delegate my time to arranging.

that'd be great but we can worry about those later.

we don't have a specific deadline. deadlines=potential rushing=possibly lower quality sheets=bad.
K. I'll do both then.
Anything other sheets I can do in the meantime?

for now, could you post the zelda stuff here (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=4068.0)? I'd like to keep this thread for current focus sheets and general fixing discussion.
Ok, I'll do that.

I include links to the original so that people who are not familiar with the tunes(such as yourself in this case) will have a reference point to judge whether a sheet is accurate or not. So long as you have an objective ear and an eye for error-spotting, it should not make any difference.
Yes, the "Objective Ear" and "Eye of Error-spotting" are real items that you need to find in a dungeon. Don't forget your Monsterbane Sword. : P
Well then you must point me to said dungeon. :o
What dungeon? He said he had links to the original..
Lol he took sumthing out :0
I finally got some time to look at the sheets proper.
Ridley
I don't think this is an /8th time piece at all. It sounds more like it should be a fast 4/4
The enharmonics are all over the place and inconsistent.
Quarter note tempo should not be used in 8 time.
Sandy Maridia
Those notes in the bass don't need to be accented at all.
There are a number of unplayable as written passages such as M19, M25-26, and M31.
Perhaps there could be some pedal markings, that would also fix some of the unplayable parts.
Measure 41 – I don't think there should be a key here. It's very chromatic.
Torvus Bog
This really shouldn't be in cut time at all.
In my opinion, there shouldn't be any more than 2 tied whole notes. Generally the piano won't sustain the notes that long, thus it's unnecessary and looks odd.
Measure 5-12 – Does the low G need to be accented?
Measure 28 – That high G might be difficult to read. Perhaps drop that part down an octave and use 15ma?
Measure 49-73, 90-111 – Instead of using a bunch of 8va's, why not make that section use an octave treble clef?
The amount of silence at the end is a bit excessive. If this was being performed for an audience, they would think that the piece is over. I would cut the last three measures.
The sheet needs measure numbers at the start of each system.
Channel Theme
It sounds like the rhythm in measure 1 is wrong.
Battle with Gandraya
There should be octave treble clefs where there are long sections with 8va.
Measure 11-12 – The rhythm should be more like measure 15-16.
Measure 31-40 – are those D notes necessary?
Measure 33 – Why is the Segno in the middle? It should be above the barline.
Measure 45 – Change the last two quarter rests into a half rest.
Measure 45, 50 – Either there should be a lower E in the second 16th note or a removal of the lower F note.
Measure 67-74 – the right hand notes are too high. Put them in an octave clef.
Torvus Bog
-Fixed.
-That's how it is in the original.
-Yes. It sounds like that in the original.
-I'd love to, but printmusic can't make quindicesima altas/bassas.
-Printmusic can't do that either...
-Deleting measures because of inactivity is wrong. To be accurate I say leave them in.
-Fixed.
Here's (http://www.mediafire.com/?s79njldrrnoq9a3) the latest version I have
^^ Shouldn't there be a repeat sign at the end instead of "go back to measure 1?"
Now with 15ma and repeat sign.

Quote from: spitllama on January 26, 2012, 04:03:34 PM^^ Shouldn't there be a repeat sign at the end instead of "go back to measure 1?"
I couldn't make one that didn't repeat to measure 17.
EDIT: Thanks, TDT!
- After rechecking these bars several times, I am confident that the rhythm is correct.
- Yes, in fact they are very necessary. They are emulating the drum-beat, and I think they do it well.
- Fixed.
- Fixed.
- No, I have done this on purpose. You can hardly put any shape into it if you just hammer away the octaves at that speed. Plus if I took out the bottom F, it would be very awkward to get to the chord. Seriously, try it on your piano.
- Yes, I was a bit unsure about that. If I move it down an octave, it will clash with what the left hand is doing. The only other option is to have the melody lower than the "ostinato", which I think wouldn't be quite as accurate. If you have any suggestions, please tell me.

Here's my two pieces, fixed:
[SNES] Super Metroid - "Sandy Maridia" - Brassman388 Zip (http://www.mediafire.com/?mxzhak3vbbs9ajo)
[SNES] Super Metroid - "Ridley" - Brassman388 Zip (http://www.mediafire.com/?qc845bybqykmqar)
I don't really think that Ridley should be 4/4... and even if it was the piece gets real screwed up when I change it. I can still alter it but it'll take some time.
Ridley is DEFINITELY NOT in 4/4.
Quote from: Olimar12345 on February 05, 2012, 03:26:14 PMRidley is DEFINITELY NOT in 4/4.
you're right. It's a fast 5/4 with occasional time switches
These two sheets are now available. If someone could take a look at either of these that would be wonderful.

I was about to do a replacement of Phantom Ganon from LoZ WW, but your list above says that Deku did it. Except it doesn't seem to be on his submissions page. Are these up for submission?

You'll have to ask Deku about that. He said that only the Ocarina of Time sheets got uploaded because of the community video project.
I made a revised version of MaestroUGC's LoZ Overworld sheet (franchise main theme), so I'm posting it here to put it toward the Fixing the Sheets project. I did some page reformatting, adding in a tempo marking, fixed up a few transcription errors, voiced a few measures in separate layers to clearly display the parts, and changed the key signature to Bb major (Maestro originally had it as Bb mixolydian [3 flats], but doing so would leave a few chords unexplained, and it would make more sense to write the piece as Bb major [2 flats] and have it draw the extra accidentals from its parallel minor).

Looking over the sheets for our current focus on the OST of Link's Awakening, I decided to make a much needed overhaul of G-Han's "Ballad of the Wind Fish" arrangement. There's some dim7 chord at measure 16, and I'm not sure how to spell it due to considerations of voice leading of the melody and 6th harmony of the previous measure. Also, I think this song could end on some awesomely jazzy chord, so feel free to give ideas for an ending.

Leave the ending as true to the original as possible. Kazumi Totaka could've added any number of jazzy chords anywhere in Link's Awakening, but you'd be hard pressed to find them.
Measure 16, I would spell it F#-A-C-Eb. F# stays a common tone with the next chord, creating a common tone diminished 7th, not a truly functional one. This also makes sense as to the resolution of the other voices, all resolve down by step.
Another diminished 7th occurs in measure 18. Now this is a true diminished 7th (sneaky what he did there, eh? Preparing a real d7 to sound not so unique by having the common tone one a couple measures before eh eh?) and should be spelled like so. C#-E-G-Bb is a very common d7, used from borrowing one note, Bb, from the parallel minor. Resolves all pretty and whatnot.
Good job on the arrangement. I can hear the original piece, which is fantastic. Good job again.
I'm almost positive that the red notes in measures 5 & 9 should match the red notes in 6 &10.

Ah, thank you! Makes sense. I have fixed it accordingly. (...sneaky Japs :3) Btw, thanks for explaining how the Bb originates in measure 18. I've always been puzzled by the nature of accidentals, as if somehow a composer just "decides" that a certain note shouldn't follow the given key signature. Apparently, that's not the case.

Fixed. Somehow, I didn't hear it when transcribing.
Was looking over another one of G-Han's arrangements for Link's Awakening, "Mysterious Woods", and found it was far below satisfactory: no key signature (should be G minor), rhythms are notated twice longer than necessary, and, worst of all, entire parts were omitted. Here is my take on the song~

I'm beginning to think I'm doing these "fix-ups" wrong XD Everytime so far, I end up completely overhauling the entire arrangement. Oh well ::) Anyway, this next contribution towards Fixing the Sheets is a total re-draft of G-Han's "Tal Tal Mountain Range" arrangement. Although this was actually a pretty good arrangement compared to some of the other arrangements of G-Han's that I've gone through so far, I felt, for this particularly epic song, it needed an arrangement to match that original epicness. Due to alot of the note overlap between parts, I had to sorta "re-invent" and make variations of the 16th note runs for the L.H., as G-Han had omitted them. I also added the key change section, which G-Han's arrangement was missing.

Here's a thought! The chord in bar 1 in the LH is a Gb half-dim 7. So if you spelled it as such, you'd end up with (in root position) Gb Bbb Dbb Fb. Fun times!
I hear the chord a different way. The chord is definitely ambiguous, but it does have a sense of motion from dominant to tonic. My ears hear the Ab in the lowest register functioning as scale degree 2 to scale degree 1 in bar 2. Using this interpretation, the rest of the notes are just neighbor notes. So I hear Ab-C-A all as neighbor notes. The Gb is a common tone to both chords, so that spelling would stay the same. That only leaves pitch class E. Hm. The best interpretation from that harmonically is to spell it as is, Ab-C-E is an augmented triad. But I think Fb is preferred here and necessary as well because of the tendency of the lowered scale degree 7 in most Eastern music, as well as Eastern game music. This would also end up being a neighbor to Gb.
So from the ground up harmonically, I hear Ab-C-Fb-Gb-A. You can trace the harmonic and linear points I made in the paragraph above to spell this unfamiliar chord (Debussy what?). If there's anything that doesn't make sense, let me know.
Then again, this chord isn't in the original so it could be left off all together. Interesting enough, the only pitch class not included in the chromatic run, A, is in the chord. The full aggregate is nice and noticeable. Good arrangement!
Just some minor touch-ups today, no major overhauls. Bottle Grotto was actually a fairly good arrangement to begin with, as well as Dr. Write's House. However, Catfish's Maw was simply a bad transcription, as if the arranger got lost in the song while making it.

Also, I believe I should give some feedback on the arrangements others have done so far for the FtS project:
Angler's Tunnel - Very nice, but I think the distance between the bass and treble staves could be widened to avoid collision with the crescendo marking.
Animal Village - Great job, good articulation. However, a BPM of 180 is absolutely not acceptable. This isn't speedcore techno, lol. I suggest re-writing the arrangement with half as long note values and half the tempo speed.
Fishing Under the Bridge - Looks good to me!
Nightmare - Great arrangement, but it's the completely wrong song! That's just the regular "Boss Battle" theme.
The Ghost's House - Very nice, but instead of writing single Leo at the beginning, write "con pedale" and then write in invisible pedal markings. Currently, the playback is very muddy because of that.

Quote from: DekuTrombonist on June 30, 2012, 06:56:01 PMMeasure numbers in Eagle's Tower have gone *poof*
Silly me XD I think what happened was, instead of opening a new document and re-writing the arrangement, I made the edits on the original .mus, which must have not had measure numbers due to low-level or old Finale model. Fixed.
Btw, is the B section I added to "Mabe Village" appropriate? It's not in the OST, but I did include the original 2-note version in the first half of the arrangement.
I tried real hard to find errors in Mabe Village. Good job there. The B section isn't really a contrasting section, continues in the same vain. Idunno, that'd be up to the higher ups.
I did see a few in the other ones you didn't touch.
In Eagle's Tower, I hear the main theme differently than what either of you have. I hear A-C#-B#-C#. Wait, yes I can make a case. for hearing it this way. The two are the same harmonically. A major third with a chromatic lower neighbor on the top voice. I think it should be A-C#-B#-C#, then Ab-B-C-B. Use whichever spelling of Ab/G# in the right hand that corresponds to what's going on beneath it. Gb in 13. In this highly chromatic music, you always try to spell it best on the situation. The pitches play less for the tonal side, so the goal is to make things as simple as possible for the reader.
However, in 17, I would make the case for a more tonal background. I hear D#-E#-F#-A# in the left hand. Would spell the right hand with D# and F# there, possibly B# if you'd like. Would make sense for the C#-B#-D# in measure 18. A# in the right hand in 19. Probably would spell the left hand D#-E#-F#-D.
In 25, definitely back to tonal ground again, based off the beginning. Instead of Bb, I would use A#. 29 is just based off Bminor, so B-C#-D-A etc. G# in measure 32. C# minor in 33. C#-D#-E-B. Then A# in 35. Nice little piece there, good morning analysis to wake up to.
EDIT: Definitely wanted to post that before it got lost in the little sub-bar. Didn't want to lose it.
Face Shrine is perfect. As is the other one. Should've just looked real quick before posting. Why am I still rambling? Keep up the good work!

I was looking over Jake3343's arrangement of the "Credits" theme from Link's Awakening, and, after comparing to the original, found it was fairly bad transcription. Coincidentally, I found out that the arrangement was based on a MIDI from Vgmusic, go figure ::) As such, I decided to write re-write the arrangement myself from scratch.

I'll be honest, V.E. Norman's arrangement of the "Opening" theme of Link's Awakening did not do justice to the epic, cinematic intro of the game. Instead of revising his, I decided to make my own arrangement, and I hope it better captures the feeling of the original:

EDIT: It looks like I've done all the Link's Awakening arrangements marked as Available ;D However, since Sekter's contributions to FtS still need fixing, and considering he hasn't been on the forums since February, I'll take the liberty to fix the songs he claimed. Once I do that, I'll make another post with a list for all the revisions/replacements for Link's Awakening, and then we can move on to the next soundtrack!
EDIT 2: Before anyone states something like "how am I supposed to play the L.H. in beginning of Opening", let me state there I wrote the L.H. in separate layers to signify an implied pedaling.
I love that you do Link's Awakening! My fav Zelda(after MM)
*drum roll* Now presenting -- the COMPLETE revised sheets of Link's Awakening! Took alot of work, but it was worth it.

Quote from: Olimar12345 on July 19, 2012, 05:53:26 PMWhat's up with the second half of Mabe Village? That's not in the original...
Thought'd it be fun to fill in the harmonic blanks. I can take it out if that's what the higher-ups want.
Though I do like it, I would suggest removing it for the sake of consistency.
Mmkay. I kinda expected this would be the case, since the same thing had happened before with my arrangement of "In the Hands of Fate" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2. I guess I just didn't learn my lesson XD Then again, Deku hasn't responded yet to me about the Link's Awakening replacements, so maybe I can still cross my fingers :P
Public opinion gathering:
Would you like to see Super Smash Bros. Melee as the new focus for Fixing the Sheets project? If not, what would you like to suggest instead?
Melee does need some work
Quote from: spitllama on July 19, 2012, 09:37:42 PMMelee does need some work
I think so too. It's very popular (and my personal favorite of the Smash Bros. games), and I'd bet you a Cosmo's shiny nickel that a bit of traffic comes to NSM looking just for a good arrangement of Hyrule Temple or Corneria.
I think our entire smash bros section needs attention... But melee would be a good start.
Quote from: Olimar12345 on July 19, 2012, 10:47:54 PMI think our entire smash bros section needs attention... But melee would be a good start.
Agreed. However, I thought Melee should be the focus for now since its soundtrack is somewhat more iconic than Brawl's. Not that Brawl's is bad in the least, no no, excellent, but that the fact that it is just SO BIG left only the Main Theme and variations thereof as the most easily memorable ones.
Brawl. 'Cause people are more into the newer games. I myself would like the Kirby's Return to Dreamland/Kirby's Adventure Wii(Europe name) soundtrack here. ;)
Quote from: FSM-Reapr on July 20, 2012, 02:33:46 AMBrawl. 'Cause people are more into the newer games.
So what? The Melee section needs much more work. I think Melee would be a good start.

you can use it as a template and arrange on it, I don't care.
There are some Youtube videos which have various songs from Melee performed on piano. Even if they're all two piano duets, maybe they could be helpful.

Really? Ahh, coincidences...
Quote from: WarioMan98 on July 20, 2012, 03:12:56 AMAs the great majority of songs are remixes from original songs, then: "Original composed by [composer of the original song]", (Below) "Arranged by Hirokazu Ando, Tadashi Ikegami, Shogo Sakai and Takuto Kitsuta" and (Below) "Re-arranged by [name of the arranger]"
I don't like the sound of "re-arranged by", since it gives the wrong impression. A re-arrangement would have to involve some kind of drastic pianistic reinterpretation of the song, which, in this case, would not be correct. Since we are merely providing transcriptions, I think perhaps instead we should use "Transcribed by" or "Piano reduction by".

I see your point, but don't we use the "Arranged by [arranger]" in normal arrangements? Following your logic, all arrangements on site and the forums would have to be changed to "Transcribed by" or "Piano reduction by". I really think it is the same thing. It doesn't matter if a song has been remixed, or arranged x times, we are doing
piano arrangements no matter what.

Hmm, that doesn't sound right either. Composed and then "re-composed"? If it's already been composed, then the transcribed song is an arrangement.
Also, Jompa, while in japanese that's the way you write them (if I'm not wrong), the pronunciation is different. You don't say "Andou", you say "Ando", only with the "o" a little but extended even if the "u" is in the written form. It's like "えいが" (film, romanized "eiga"), you pronounce "eega", and not the "i" in the middle.
SO, what I want to say is that it's not "Andou", the pronunciation and therefore the correct romanization would be "Andoo", but the final "o" is omitted, leaving simply "Ando". The same thing happens with "Shougo", which is "Shogo".
Nevertheless, there are exceptions, and unfortunately I don't know if this is the case. I someone knows, please correct me.
Either way, I would suggest writing "Ando" and "Shogo" respectively.
Sorry for the japanese lesson, by the way. ;D

You are right in the case of "Ando", but I'm still convinced that it is "Shougo", or at least "Shōgo".

Let me correct myself: "You are right in the case of "Ando", but I'm still convinced that it is *"Shōgo", or at least *"Shougo"."
The "ō" means "ou". If it says "Shōgo", then "Shogo" is incorrect. :)
Also, the reason I thought it was "Andou(ō)" is because "Andō" is a very common japanese name. I knew this from beforehand - and i've never come across any
alternate spelling like "Ando" before. But now, after I've looked into it abit more, I've found out that it is "Ando".

That's not a bad idea... "remixed by"... sounds good to me! Anyone else agrees? :)
NO.
Re-arranged: No. This is not a good word for it, and it is not accurate as we are just copying parts of the melody, not making our own arrangement.
Remixed: NO. We have discussed this before somewhere, and this site will not be associated with remixes.
Transcribed is both the more accurate term and the cleaner-sounding one. We should use it.
Honestly, transcribed is probably the term we should already be using rather than arranged, as we aren't changing anything about the piece.

But technically, "Super Mario Bros. 3" from SSBM,
is a remix of "Overworld" and "World 1". So
Original composed by, Remixed by, Arranged by wouldn't be wrong at all. The arrangement won't be a remix, the song arranged is a remix. I think this fit with SSBM arrangements.
I think it's time we define what these words even mean in the context of what we do.

What happened was I made a a sub-folder within my Public folder in Dropbox for all the Link's Awakening replacements and moved the files there, but forgot that that kind of change doesn't automatically update the links. Now realizing that, I went back and manually edited each link by adding "LoZ%20-%20Link%27s%20Awakening/" (the sub-folder name).

There are alot of moving parts in the SSBM Hyrule Temple theme. As such, my transcription below probably could be considered fairly difficult, due to how I arranged the parts to fit into 2-hands.
(Due to spacing issues, I have hidden the pedal markings and have written "con pedale" in text. The phrasing, articulation, and layers should hopefully indicate my pedaling intentions. Also, I have purposefully used improper rhythm notation at measures 32-33 to reduce notational clutter.)

Really great, Bespinben. My only criticism is the last bar. I think the best way to finish it would be to use the final bar of the "Smashing...Live!" version of Fountain of Dreams. It would make it much more in character than the cadence you put at the end. Here's a link to the "Smashing....Live" version:

Hmm, we got conflicting opinions here... what to do...
This is the map I probably fought on most, so I thought it should be the next one for which I would make a replacement, since it's got an awesome theme and all. The harmonies around measure 29+ were a pain to transcribe.
(This song is a modulating mess. If you got input on anything concerning accidentals, do share. I think I did an OK-ish job though.)
(In measure 36, by "faux sost.", I am referring to the knock-off sostenuto found in virtually all upright pianos and in some low-end grand pianos, the function of which lifts the dampers off the bass tones. This is essential for the repeated note section.)

Such a soothing song. Wouldn't expect that from your typical fighting game, but then again, Super Smash ain't your typical fighting game. I really like that it's a remake of the same song that plays in the Save Room in Kirby Super Star (and it's remake Ultra) during The Great Cave Offensive, as if the composers were trying to make a statement of how both games involved references to other Nintendo franchises (collecting various items from other franchises in Kirby Super Star, compared to battling various Nintendo characters in Melee).
Oh, and I need help with this track's nomenclature. I did hours of research, and there are two titles I see recurring: "All-Star Rest Area" and "All-Star Intro". SSBM has no official OST release, so there was no way to confirm which was the correct title.
If I could ask a favor, would someone please open up the sound test feature in Melee and tell me what it calls this track? I'd do it myself, but my half-sister last had the disc, and she has no clue where it is :/

Thanks! Hope you don't mind my slower interpretation of the tempo in All Star Rest Area. I think I badly messed up with notating the modulations in Final Destination though.
At surface, if one compares my revision here with Hoji's original arrangement on-site, it would seem as if I actually wrote in fewer parts from the original song. However, I think the approach I have taken in this revision works a little bit better for emulating the original song on the piano.

I wrote in "Edited by Bespinben", but now that I compare my replacement here to the original arrangement on-site, I'm questioning if that's a proper descripton :P

Hey Bespinben, I thought I'd let you know that in Australia, most upright pianos "sostenuto" pedal is actually a silent pedal which places felt against the strings to dampen the sound. So, I can't actually do your final destination transcription. MY LIFE IS RUINED
Quote from: Bespinben on October 08, 2012, 05:23:22 PMI know Warioman already did this one, but his was still missing some parts.
It's ok. It only took me 10 minutes to do the replacement, so I didn't repair a lot in details. Almost done it completely by ear. lol
Please use Bespin's one as replacement. :)
For Ness's Victory below, I actually didn't change Hoji's arrangement at all. Thought it was really good. All I did here was add a tempo marking, some articulation, and correct the composer and copyright info.

As for Pokemon Victory below, I did my usual overhauling of the arrangement. Problematically, I couldn't get the ending quite right like the original, since the piano simply can't sustain notes at a constant volume after striking. I think it still works though.

That's interesting. I thought it was just certain models of Yamaha uprights that had middle pedals as silent "practice pedals". Anyway, you can still use the usual sustain pedal there, but you just won't be able to play those certain parts staccato, as indciated.
As of now, I believe all the Victory themes are complete :D HuZZAH!
Original arrangement was OK-ish, but was missing some parts. Here's my replacement.

I know Warioman already did this one too, but a tempo of 210 quarters per minute is simply incorrect for this song, so I did my own replacement.

Original arrangement was horrid, which is hard to believe since the song is very simple. There is a small music theory dillemma here though. As of now, I'm treating the piece as D minor with a Picardy third ending. However, it is also possible to treat the piece as a D major piece that heavily borrows from the parallel minor. I went with the D minor treatment because it reduced the total number of accidentals, making things clearer. What do you guys think?

D minor is ok, I think. :)

In this kind of situation, you're supposed to use minor - The song itself is minor (one and a half measure), it's just the ending chord that's major, So minor is fine :)

Right, Picardy third ending. Just not used to seeing those outside church hymns, that's all :P

Hey, I'm gonna be super picky about your choice of key signature.
This is actually in G mixolydian mode! That is why it's really hard to tell. it's neither major nor minor. <: One clue is that it starts and ends in a g major chords, yet it sounds in a different mode. The seven is flat, which is why you see a lot of f natural when you would assume there would be an f sharp. Because this is in g mixolydian mode, this would preferably be written as if it was in c major. :P
Now the chord in the 2nd major may bring skepticism. The e flat chord in first inversion is a flat sixth chord (VIb) of the g major scale. It borrows from its supposedly minor counterpart. That chord is not really in the scale so it has nothing to do with the key signature. It just adds flavor to the music!
Feel free to argue against me fellow music theorist. haha
Now for the samus victory theme, it does indeed end in a picardy third. <: It is totally in d minor.
I apologize if I am sounding egotistical...I just never got to use my music theory knowledge outside the classroom. So yes, this is the cool stuff you learn when you go to music school! :D
Could I be a Quality Assurer?
Hey, I would like to join in on this project as an arranger. Where can I start?
Sign me up on the arranger team. I'm going to run though the Pokémon section and fix all those battle themes.
(As well as encounter themes)
Here's the battle themes for Black/White.
ZIP (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93589150/Pok%C3%A9mon%20BW%20Battle%20Themes.zip)
Note for the Elite Four theme: I'm going to make a complete replacement for that because there are quite a number of issues.
I've just fixed the text to last until I get that done.
You guys go right ahead.
PM Shadoninja for what's ready to be worked on.
But Shado's not around anymore... :(

You do know that his post was from a while ago, right? Just send everything to me. I'll be taking over this summer.

I'm kind of new here, but I'd really like to contribute to this awesome site.
I noticed that many of the Midis for various sheet music didn't differentiate between hands when loaded into a program like Synthesia.
I can easily convert many of the PDFs into Midis with the correct channels to create the separate hands, as I feel this may help people (Like me) who use Synthesia and various other programs to learn how to play the piano.
This may not be the biggest issue here, but I have some free time and I'd really like to help others.
Ask Olimar. He's the expert on midis.
I was wondering who is taking over this "Fixing the Sheets" project now that Shado's gone.
I'd gladly do it, but I'd need mod-like abilities..
Can anyone shed some light on the subject? This is an initiative I don't want to see die.

I forgot you said that. Sounds good Olimar.
I'd like to remove my sheet of "Achievement!" from LoZ: OoT. The reasons for this removal are as follows:
1) I had played Ocarina of Time but not the original Zelda so I honestly had no idea this song was from a previous game, much less that it was already on the site.
2) I had no idea what to call it because I'd never seen a video or anything and it's not featured on the OST. (See reason 1)
3) "Achievement!" is a stupid title.
4) I feel like an idiot whenever I see it.
5) It embarrasses me to see my name beside it.
So for those reasons, I'd like to take it down. Is that ok?

Don't think this is the right place for that. Maybe in Help?
Also, yeah, "Achievement!" doesn't sound that well. I'd put "Opening a Treasure Chest" or simply "Treasure Chest". ;/

But it's already in The Legend of Zelda (1). It shouldn't be posted again in Ocarina of Time.
