Ragster2448's Arrangements

Updates
Mask of Polokus (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

Discovery (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.
Puzzle Solved (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.
Try Again! (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

Mask of Polokus (Orchestrated) (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

I ran across some sound effects of Rayman 2, and the short themes are consider to be sound effects and not music. So, I arranged all the short ones that I found. I'm still missing the King Teensie dance, which I'll look for here soon (there's like 200 sound effects to look through)

Projects
Rayman 2 Project - I'm going to arrange the entire soundtrack of Rayman 2: The Great Escape from Nintendo 64. I'm taking requests.
Level Themes = 9/20
Battle Themes = 1/13
Character Themes = 0/4
Other Themes = 5/22
Short Theme = 3/4

Pirate Battle

This is very good for a first arrangement but of course there are a few things that need to be fixed.

Measure 2, 4, 6, 8 - the Eb and D in the right hand should be an F and E natural respectively.

Measure 4 - is there supposed to be a rest at the end in the left hand?

Measure 9-24 - are those 8vb's supposed to be 8va's?

Measure 15-16, 23-24 - I'd put an 8va in the right hand at these measures. Having it on M15 and M23 may seem odd since they're not too high, but if you didn't then there would be a leap in eye movement between the measures.

there shouldn't be any dotted rests because it's a simple meter.

the copyright should be Ubisoft not Nintendo.

Thanks for critiquing it! I'll get right on it.

Measure 4: I think so, but it might be just bad sound quality coming from the game that makes it sound like it skips or something.

Measure 9-24: I did try 8va, but I didn't like how they sounded, so I tried lowering the notes with 8vb and I thought that it made it sound better.

QuoteMeasure 15-16, 23-24 - I'd put an 8va in the right hand at these measures. Having it on M15 and M23 may seem odd since they're not too high, but if you didn't then there would be a leap in eye movement between the measures.

Wait, so you want me to make the pitch one octave higher in the middle of the build up? I don't know if I understand what you mean.

Update

- "Pirate Battle" - Rayman 2 changed to "Pirate Battle #11" - Rayman 2

I've decided to name Pirate Battle "Pirate Battle #11" just in case if I decide to do the previous versions before it. The pirate battles are the best songs in the game, so I'll probably be doing most of them.

I'm never really sure what you add when you update. So Ima listen to the first one and critique that one.
First off, neat little piece "Riding a Shell." Simplistic, but works.
The piece is in C minor, no doubt. When you spelled the interval Gb Cb in measure 17, you begin to hide this fact. If you respelled the interval F# B natural, this would make more sense. If one knows a C minor Harmonic scale, one would know the tone B natural is used instead of a Bb to establish C as the goal of the scale, resulting in C minor. This fact shouldn't be hidden by the Cb spelling and instead a B natural spelling should be used. This occurs at least three other times in the piece and should be fixed each time.
In measure 23, you spell the chromatic chord as Gb and Db. This loses part of the function of the chord. I know I just said don't hide the key, but this chord functions as a chromatic neighbor chord to the dominant of the key of C minor. Basically, it's alright to have this chord spell as F# and C# because it resolves toward the G and D and does not sound step wise like the current spelling suggests. And this occurs a few other times as well.
If I just rambled and you don't get anything, send me a pm. It's important to know how to do these things to correct these problems in the future by yourself. And then you don't need me rambling for forever on your topic! Hurray!

Thanks for that! The newer version replaced the old one under the MUS link.

Also, I'll start putting in my update post what song I put on my arrangement list. Sorry about that, I guess I just got lazy.

I just know there's something wrong with the very last part of the right hand... The highest notes just don't sound right. I tried all the combinations I could think of to make it sound right, but... I don't know. It just doesn't sound right to me. :P

Ninja Pirate Battle orchestra added! My plan is to orchestrate most of the songs that I make. Hopefully I'll have the entire soundtrack orchestrated (which will take an awful long time)!

EDIT: ..... I forgot to save my changes before I uploaded. I'll re-upload it here soon.

I looked at "Trainer Encounter." Good piece. Good job.
I would probably use B# and Cx in the chromatic run in the bass. Shows the motion of the line and what chord it's outlining.
I could see why you thought to use Eb and Fb in measure 3 and 6, but these are both diatonic and I would just use the D# and E already provided by the key. Shows the same movement in a more concise way.
Don't use two dotted notes next to each other in a duple meter piece (2/4, 4/4, 4/8 etc). It's far more clear and correct to use a dotted quarter, then eighth note tied to a quarter, then a quarter. You always want to clearly recognize the strong beats in the meter (in this case, 1 and 3). This problem also occurs in the treble of measure 2. The syncopation is notated incorrectly.
But good job. Keep it up!

I'll have the newer version up here soon, but I have a question; should I use a glissando at the very beginning for the left hand? I used it and it sounded the same but looked better.

Everything that I've been working since my last update has been added! 5 new songs, which include:
Rayman 2 - Whale Bay, The Precipice, Spider Attack, and Foutch Battle
Mario Kart DS - Desert Hills

3 revised songs, which include:
Rayman 2 - Ninja Pirate Battle and Ninja Pirate Battle (Orchestrated)
Pokemon RBY Version - Trainer Encounter

And then there's Rayman 2 - Jano Battle, which I forgot to put on the list when I accidentally destroyed my list. :P It's been revised from it's original version as well.

Axel Battle (Orchestrated) added, and Ninja Pirate Battle (orchestrated) has been revised...... xD I'll never be happy with it.

The song I'm going off for the Foutch Battle is leaving out parts. I'll have the newer version when I listen to the actual song on the game.

Update. Yeah, so I started over. Don't get mad.

After I got my piano for christmas, I attempted to play the songs that I made, and I was playing them along with their original songs. Welp, what I heard the piano play was WAY off from the original. This mostly happened to every single sheet I tried to play. So, from here on out, I will test these songs on my new piano (yes, I never had a piano before. I was all ears, which probably wasn't a very good idea), and I guarantee my sheets will be 99% (can never be 100%) accurate. No more going back and editing them every 5 hours, so you don't have to worry about that anymore. I still have my old sheets, too, so I'll update them and have them up as soon as they're perfect. Oh, and don't think my Rayman 2 Project is over. It's just going to be known as the Rayman Project, becuase I'm gonna arrange any Rayman song that I can think off.

Sorry everybody (if there was anybody who liked them). I kind of rushed, thinking I was going to get these done and have all the Rayman 2 songs arranged. But if I am to get all Rayman 2 songs done, I should do them accurately enough to be able to be put on the site (which hopefully I'll get most of them on there).

Anyways, I'm back! I'll start working harder on arranging some pieces from now on.

True, I just find the right note faster with a piano... And I can play back a sequence of notes at the same time as the real music is playing. That's kind of hard to do in finale if they're pretty fast notes.

Great job on the Rayman music! I don't think I'd have enjoyed the game nearly as much without the music. :)

Might I be able to request the song Entering the Pirate Ship (http://66.90.118.45/soundtracks/rayman-2-the-great-escape/vzzosfecqu/1-09-entering-the-pirate-ship.mp3)? That's personally one of my favourites but I'm unsure how it'll make the translation to piano.

Wow, didn't expect to get request! That'll be my next one to make.

I decided not to include that part in the Fairy Glade. It just didn't mesh very well with it's music, so it'll be it's own sheet.

Entering the Pirate Ship (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

I'm using the Nintendo 64's soundtrack to go off of, but the one you showed me doesn't sound much different from it at all. It should be pretty close.

Haha, yeah, Rayman 2 music isn't very complex. It doesn't take me long to figure out the notes, plus they use the same note techniques in songs to where I can pretty much guess what note is being played. It's pretty cool how they make such simple music sound so good.

The Menhir Hills (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

Also, formatting has been changed on all of the sheets. They are all now playable, too (Removed impossible layers, made it to where you can play the 2 layers at the same time).

The Top of the World (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

The Top of the World has some of the most unique music from the game. This one was really fun to do  :D (Even though it was difficult learning some parts)

Ninja Pirate Battle (Rayman 2: The Great Escape (Nintendo 64)) added.

I finally figured out the note pattern to that towering part! I thought that I'd never do it.
