This is the discussion of the stuff that falls outside of VG music and the normal stuff people listen too... well stuff that ISN'T a Soundtrack made for that movie (sans words)
Have at it!
Current Soundtrack: HP and the Deathly Hallows.
Alexandre Desplat is probably one of the better HP composers. John Williams set the stage, but Nicholas Hopper and Alexandre Desplat made it amazing!
I love Desplat's two pieces "Ministry of Magic" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1FdGkra0cc&feature=related) and "Detonators" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIOmiDAgZSk&feature=related). They're both great, but "Detonators" really stuck out to me--it was one of the few times I was in a movie, heard the music, and thought, "I have to find this song somewhere!" At first I thought it was gonna be a remix of Williams' "Nimbus 2000" but it took a different direction. It fit the "mechanical" feel of the office witches and wizards making packets about Muggle-borns.
Nicholas Hooper was another great addition, and at first I was a bit disappointed to hear that he changed his mind about scoring the seventh film. My personal favorite by him is "Professor Umbridge" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkyAv6b3lMY&feature=related)--the theme fit her pompous, smug little toadlike self.
I may make a topic about the seventh movie in the Movies thread later. ;)
Trying to arrange some stuff from "Cardcaptor Sakura" during my free time. -__- The goal is to get either the (in-series) hymn or the other Christmas theme done by Christmas.
OK, so I like that girly anime...quit laughing at me.
>__>
Old, but the LoTR soundtrack is pretty amazing xD
The first time I heard about Cardcaptors...
was in a youtube video the other day, with the top 10 openings or something like that...
Also, I like to listen to the Pokemon anime soundtrack. Not just the VG's. XD
There are some soundtracks from other things too (actual movies), but I can't think of them right now...
LOL Cardcaptors =/= Cardcaptor Sakura
The former is what happens when you take a girl's show and edit it to appeal to boys. The lessons from that include 1) girls are stupid, spoiled and they cry easily 2) 75% of the material was cut 3) It is completely okay for someone who sounds like a 30 year old man to live in the same room as a little girl who sounds like a boy.
noooo....xD
(I'm curious about which opening you watched though. Link?)
Hans Zimmer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Zimmer#Discography)
'Nuff said.
Howl's Moving Castle is THE epic soundtrack. Also Series of Unfortunate Events and possibly Donnie Darko (though I have never seen that movie).
Joe Hisaishi has some AWESOME tracks. Maretocks, it would benefit you to listen to these tracks.
From Spirited Away
Procession of the Gods (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uylzfMAVfAM) is an epically epic...godlike...piece (especially part from 1:29 to 2:05)
Day of the River... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC1-3noPDdU) is a really heartfelt song
Sootballs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ5pnU4ICKM&feature=related) is a sneaky little piece, and now that I listen to it, it reminds me of my composition "The Strange Boy"
Reprise... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkSnCMPhaRY) is a nice, calm, happy theme
From Howl's Moving Castle
Merry-Go-Round of Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJGRrHIhEFI) is the main piece that's awesome from this movie (this version was released separately from the film)
Wandering Sophie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6t2ziWLhWko) is my favorite in-film song
From My Neighbor Totoro
Path of Wind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfoSlbxEOEg)
Studio Ghibli is pretty awesome. xD
^There was a guy (http://delldongo.free.fr/other/chihiro4.php) on Youtube that posted mp3s of Spirited Away arrangements (with 4 hands) that he played. They're pretty good but they have a few mistakes :D
His Soul Calibur arrangements are great too ;D ;D ;D
If someone could make sheet music of those arrangements (especially Sootballs) that would be epic.
I've never played Plants VS Zombies, but this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9xAig0C00E&feature=related) from it sounds interesting...
And I just found a piano version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJphgqGfQq8&feature=related), too...

You could always email him and ask him if he's willing to share them :D
Dark Cloud 2 has an excellent soundtrack. You should listen to it.
Aaargh. I know you love Kirby but a better name for you would be "I'm Obsessed With Dark Cloud 2, I'm Proud Of It, And I Want Everyone To Know It".
Unfortunately, SuperFireKirby is more concise.
Also--one of my new favorite tracks on the Spirited Away soundtrack is The Stink God (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko5gNwtrp3g). The first time I heard it, I was like, "meh." Now I really like the piece; I can't understand it.
That's also probably the best part in the movie. :3
It is though. It's one of the main reasons I love the game.
Also its the same composer who did the Layton games music.
Metroid Prime has a lovely soundtrack as well. Its up there with my favorite VG OST's.
Quote from: SuperFireKirby on December 18, 2010, 06:19:34 AMIt is though. It's one of the main reasons I love the game.
Yeah, I never denied that the music is awesome. xD
I also did know that Tomohito Nishiura composed for that. He is a great composer (though I prefer Mr. Yokota).

...I was bored today... xD
Please tell me what you think of my arrangement...

oh wow, triple post, but still. :P
Someone uploaded the Ponyo soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi onto YouTube, and a very beautiful track is Deep Sea Ranch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-EsR4rDRMc)... I will be putting this soundtrack on my iPod for sure! :D
1. combo breaker :3
2. wow that piece is so pretty O_o I love Ponyo, that was such an adorable, beautiful film <3
I know some cooler songs in Ponyo...
MP3 downloads:
Night of the Meteor (http://www.mediafire.com/?podvp6ob2voah5w) (I remember getting chills down my body when I first heard this song)
Flash Signal (http://www.mediafire.com/?4yewx344zz5kb03) (A simple but pretty song)
Fujimoto (http://www.mediafire.com/?v3en3bnd229b80a) is a kind of strange and somewhat mysterious song that I actually really like.
Little Sisters (http://www.mediafire.com/?v3en3bnd229b80a) is a heroic and bold song that makes me feel important. :D
I have the whole soundtrack if you want to email me about it.
ponyo ponyo ponyo saka na no ko

No, no, no, no. Up and Ratatouille were the best of his. 8)
^^ Yes, very true. Also the baby from The Incredibles is insane.
There is a short extra scene that comes with the DVD showing the baby sitter's experiences. It's hilarious.
Oh wait, I don't remember any sound tracks from it, though...
I'm totally into Henry Mancini at the moment, having recently watched The Thief Who Came To Dinner.

Wow y'all watch to many movies. I haven't heard of or seen the majority of these movies...
Hahaha! I've watched most of these either at home or in the subject Japanese at school. :D
The best (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93jxkqG0gWc)
It's been stuck in my head the whole day....
Love that song, despite its repetitiveness. Great theme for the movie.
Anyone here seen Bleach? I doubt you haven't due to all this talk but I was wondering...
Never actually watched since I've grown out of the anime phase of my life(which consisted of almost exclusively Naruto and DBZ). Post some song links and I'll probably listen to em.
Here ya go! This is the Bleach Portal; the videos are in Japanese with English subtitles... XD
If you want to see it in English, just go to YouTube.
http://bleachportal.net/bleach/multimedia/direct_episodes
No, this is the sound track topic. XD
Yeah, I've seen Bleach, but I don't remember any music from it.
Oh, whoops. Didn't read the request properly. I'm not a major fan of Bleach, but my friend likes it. He says it has some really cool songs in it.
Another great one on the Harry Potter 7 soundtrack -- Lovegood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yevdyin2abs)
(Finally got around to downloading it off of iTunes)
I haven't seen Harry Potter 7. I should though, before part 2 comes out.
A masterpiece in the world of videogame soundtracks:
Shadow of the Colossus - The Opened Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3PRXFLJYcw)
Pixar films can have some really good soundtracks. For example, Married Life from Up.
Married Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93jxkqG0gWc)
OH THE TEARS T_T
And The Incredibles has one of my favorite soundtracks of any movie ever
The Glory Days (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhJa_GQdWXg)
And also Danny Elfman.
Oh dear lord Danny Elfman.

Yes. Yes. YES. YEESSSS.
Danny Elfman is my favorite film composer. I love what he does... I have several videos on YT of me playing songs from the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack, check them out if you want. :) I'll have Nightmare Before Christmas coming soon since that's my favorite movie, and possibly Corpse Bride.
Every single track of the Tron Legacy soundtrack is freaking awesome.

Okay, yes yearlong bump!
Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows by Hans Zimmer. Great album. Outdoes the original, uses the main Discombobulate theme but not too much, only fully referencing it in the penultimate track "The End?"
My favorite track would have to be "Tick Tock (Shadow Pt. 2)", the second of three parts of a creepy "shadows" overture. This part is EPICALLY amazing and I found the soundtrack a refreshing departure from what Zimmer has come to be associated with.
bump
Recently, my Radio did this top 100 movie soundtracks thing, interestingly
Spoiler
The Mission
came first. So I got the soundtrack on my Ipod.
It seems okay, I can see where the praise comes from, although I normally end up not liking soundtracks from a work I haven't seen/played yet.
