I kinda borrowed this from Nintendude's previous update threads and made a few adjustments of my own.
For the next update, you may post 3 songs you think are ready for submission.
I know it's less then the 5 you've had for the past few updates but I hope to make up for this with more frequent updates.
Please indicate if your submission is a replacement, it makes things much easier.
The Formatting Guidelines are here, FOLLOW THEM. (http://www.ninsheetm.us/smf/index.php?topic=481.0) It will make everything flow a whole lot smoother.
So, in a lovely step-by-step process:
1. Perfect up to 3 songs for submission
2. Make sure they are formatted PERFECTLY
3. Post links to the submissions here, mus and midi
4. Did I mention I want them perfectly formatted? Repeat steps 2 and 3 if you didn't listen to me
5. I will review submissions and post acceptance/rejection feedback whenever I can.
6. When we've got enough, I'll close the thread to any new submissions. (You can still make changes to your existing submissions.)
7. I'll wait at least 1 day if any modifications ned to be made and then all accepted songs will be uploaded and we'll start this circus again
Got it? If yes, make your post and submit your songs! If not, PM me with questions.
Questions I've Received (or made up):
-Do I need to break up a medley? No, it counts as one submission
-Do I have to include copyright and the site URL? Yes. The copyright is just <Publisher> © <Year Published> without the <> obviously. The URL is http://www.ninsheetm.us/
-How do I make a MIDI? Open the MUS in Finale, click File>Save As... and choose MIDI from the dropdown list.
-When can we submit? Now! Just do it.
-Can I still submit after you've swept-through the posts? Yes. You can submit up until I post that the thread is closed for submissions.

Me first.
[GCN] Starfox Assault - Fichina - Brassman388 (Four Hands)
Sounds awesome, it's great to see you're back into arranging again Brassman. Do you think you could split this onto two lots of piano staves kinda like your other ones from Kirby Air Ride. Otherwise I think it seems like an unplayable solo piano part as opposed to a perfectly playable duet.
That's why it's called Four Hands, for like, one piano.
Haha, this would be madness for one person to play by himself.
Edit: Unless of course you want me to split it. Then that's a whole different story.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that a duet was for two people on the one piano and four hands was for two pianos. But I digress, that's kinda irrelevent.
I was thinking along the lines of splitting into 1 piano with two treble staves and second piano with 2 bass staves. That's how I was taught that duets are written
Hahaha, It's ironic you say to put 2 trebles on top and 2 basses on the bottom.
When I first joined that's exactly how I wrote duets. They were sadly rejected and thus, is the reason why I write like that today.
Funny, right?
Really? Jeeeeeez, who rejected you for that? My mum plays piano, like properly, and she's got a bunch of duet books written like that. So that's kinda where I got that idea from.
And yeah, gotta love how stuff goes around in circles :P
Also, I found mistakes in my piece... again. Let me upload another.
Err, I forget who said it was wrong. Whatever. Are you okay with it being written like that?
Not really, I'd much prefer it being split up
Alrighty, can I split it up like the way I did with my Airride series?
Err, actually, I'm going make it the way you said to make it. Seems easier for what I'm trying to achieve.
I guess you can split it up however you want. But (again correct me if I'm wrong) I believe your Airride stuff was for 2 pianos. The way I mentioned above is for two dudes playing on one piano.
EDIT: Looks like I forgot to read the second half of your post...

Full Force: The notes are all pretty good but the repeats are a little off. It's kinda hard for me to explain so I just fixed them myself. That one's accepted. I can upload what I changed if you want.
Like a Glint of Light: Somewhere on the top of Page 2, a couple of beats got lost and the rest of the song is off by 2 beats. Also some of the rhythms need fixing up eg in Measure 3, the first 2 notes should be tied.
Zero Theme: Can you change the first 2 measure to have triplets in the right hand instead of semiquavers? Other than that, it's all good. Nevermind, I just fixed it. Accepted

How can I repeat my arranger. because if I repeat tool use than to not repeat my arranger
which button do I type with that ©
The © is in the text menu. Click on the writing tool, and on the menu bar go to Text->Inserts->Copyright Symbol (©) and it will appear in the text box you are currently typing in.
The Repeat Tool only plays back in PrintMusic and above I believe. So in Finale Notepad, the repeats won't play back. But when people play arrangements, they usually print them, so as long as it's on the sheet, it's nothing to worry about. But can fix it for you if you want.
I'll look through your submissions after school today.

From The Deku Trombonist:
Title: The first section should be in 3/4 (obviously with a different tempo marking too) with semiquavers in the left hand instead of triplets. It's not that the way you've written it is wrong, it's just a real pain to read it that way. After Measure 9 it's alright. But Measure 43 has the same problem as the beginning. And Measure 33 needs to have the tempo written again above it because the value of the beat has changed from quarter note to dotted quarter note. Btw here's another handy Finale hint (useful for the 6/8 section). You can change the beams that join eighth notes etc by highlighing a note and pressing the "/" key.
Today's Results: Errr...Where's the melody? It seems kinda hidden in the left hand and some bits have been missed out. I just think it would sound better with the melody in the right hand and the weird space-ey chords in the left hand hand (or vice-versa). Also you missed out the second half of the song.
Moo Moo Farm: Sweeeet. Accepted.
OLIMAR12345
Metroid-ok, all fixed nao :D
pikmin-err, crap! how did i forget tha whole second half?! ok that 1s goin back into tha "in progress" pile for nao.
Deku
Metroid: Accepted, but I did change one small thing. In the 6/8 section, it's not "♩ = ♩." as that implies a speed up, which there isn't. I replaced it with "♩.=80"
You know you can post another one instead of the Pikmin one.
Olimar
yes but that would mean i would have to complete another one :P ill have one ready in a bit ;)
oh, and thanks! yeah i did get it backwards, lol.
Deku:
Pretty good except for the 6/8 sections. Something needs to be done to write them in a more reader-friendly time signature. Basically, the left hand rhythm in the original is all on the beat, but the way you've written it in 6/8, it's all off the beat (hopefully that makes sense :P). The two options that spring to mind first are 12/8 or 4/4.
OLIMAR
k how bout this 1?
Deku:
Accepted but, I moved a bunch of notes onto the first layer. A lot of the stuff you did with layers is unnessecary seeing as when you print it, it's all black anyway. Therefore it's a little weird to have notes suddenly flip upside down mid-way through a measure if you catch my drift.
olimar
no, i did that cus it was coliding if they were the other way around :<
Deku:
Colliding with what? I haven't got any collisions here (http://www.mediafire.com/?ixaxjlofgyiwuci)
olimar
oh, u moved them all to the 1st layer-i thought u meant something else. well i separated them for easy reading, it kinda looked messy that way :-\

From The Deku Trombonist:
Overture: This based of the Symphonic Version of the Overture. Could you mark it as such? Also, perhaps you could include some of the low brass quaver runs in the section that starts at measure 22.
Tantegel Castle: Accepted.
Ever Upwards: Where did the chromatic run in measure 20 come from? Aside from that, it's all good. Well it ain't in the original so it's gone. Accepted.
Composer #40
Make sure you have the SNES version of Ever Upwards. Also, the Symphonic version of the Overture is a great idea but will take me a while to get down. The bass run you're talking about at the brass entrance is only present in DQ III compared to DQ I & II. I would have to rewrite the section but I'm only strapped for time so there will be a long wait. :-[

Yup, I'm pretty sure it's the SNES version. Afterall, it does sound beepy and all :P - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxSFYbmEKHo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxSFYbmEKHo)

From The Deku Trombonist
Super CO Power: Accepted. Fixed a couple of small readability issues,
Jake's Theme: Just sounds kinda off to me. I think it's mainly the way the left hand part is harmonised seeing as I don't think there's too much wrong with the right hand.
Javier's Theme: Accepted. Just remember that pedal marking go under the left hand.
Done! I´ve almost correct all my arrangements. Just two left.

Infiltration in Hyrule Castle: Tempo's a little too fast and there are a couple of wrong notes but it was easy to fix. Accepted.
Thwomp Volcano:Accepted. I re-arranged it so it fits on 1 page.
That's a good point pumpy, I probably should clear that up.
I don't really care about providing a link to a midi seeing as I can just make them myself. But be aware that other updaters may not view this in the same way.

[GC] Tales of Symphonia Ymir forest
Nope, wrong notes in the left hand, wrong rhythms in right hand.
Don't forget to check your posts for acceptance/rejection notices!!!
I could reduce the bass down to one note, but it sounds very hollow then. It's based off power 5th chords common in most guitar music. I tried to keep the same notes on the piano as on the guitar.
Yeah alright, I'll accept it. Still sounds a little weird to me but maybe that's just me. I added a couple of staccatos here and there seeing as it really needs it.

From The Deku Trombonist
Woody Woods: The first 3 semiquavers should be in an anacrusis (pickup measure). Then the rest of the song needs to be moved 2 beats back. At the moment, what should be beat 1 of the measure is actually on beat 3.
Dahans: Strangely, I cannot fix that. I don't know but there's always a problem I cannot solve. What shall I do?
Route 209: Some of the harmonisation of the melody seems unneccesary. For example at 22, there is a flute solo but in the arrangement, every note is harmonised. That's just an exmaple, there are other spots where I think it's unneccesary. Also, between 3 & 6 the rhythm should be [quaver then 3 semiquaver triplets]x4 for each bar.
Dahans: Honestly, I like it this way.
D/P Medley: It's late, and I'm tired so I'll go through that one tomorrow ;)

The notes are pretty well fine in all of them but what's with the formatting? I wasn't aware that we did Jazz Inkpen (or whatever Finale calls it) around here.
Sipan: I listen to the original and compare with the arrangement. That's how I work out whether something is wrong or right.
dahans, Olimar, Shado: I'll get back to looking at your stuff in a couple of days, most likely Friday. I've got a huge computing project worth 20% of our grades that I have to finish.
As for mine, I'm currently working on it as I type this. If I don't reply about me switching the file within the time of the next update, don't update it.

Look in your thread and fix what Shadoninja suggested.
Well, since none of dahans' arrangements were accepted for small, picky reasons, he has lost all motivation and has quit arranging, according to the pm he sent me. This really sucks.
damn, I hope he comes back sometime but seeing as he seems busy with other things I think it's for the best.
That does suck that he chose to quit. Just because the arrangements weren't accepted doesn't mean they were bad. I certainly appreciated quite a few of his songs. Hopefully he'll be able to find his motivation again and come back someday though.
There's absolutely no reason that his Route 209 wasn't accepted. "Fast" and "Slow" are playing instructions I've seen on published sheets, and somewhat difficult ones at that. And too much harmony? Seriously? I can just play the top notes of the chords with the left hand and get the same result. :P
I'm glad that our standards are raising, but, yeah, DekuTrombonist is kinda pissing me off.
He means well, but to well :-\
No, he's doing what he thinks is right, and I really respect that (SO DON'T FLAME ME DT PLEASE, YOU'RE STILL A GREAT PERSON). But, I don't know, he just got a little too picky for dahans... :P
he just doesnt wanna have to worry about replacing another sheet already on tha site-we have enough on our plate already ;)
Wow, really? I can understand complaints about lacks of updates but people are complaining about an updater wanting songs to be at a certain standard? I don't think you all understand. It is a lot of work to go through a bunch of songs checking them for problems. Having to fix problems on top of that is even more work. If you want updates, it's in your best interests to do everything you can to help out. If you disagree with something but can make a valid argument for the way you did it, then any reasonable person would accept it and move on, but "I like it this way" is not a valid argument. Putting that little extra effort in can make a big difference. A well-done sheet is not only better for the site's reputation; it's also better for YOUR reputation.
Long story short, for the time being, if you want your stuff on the site, it needs to be up to TheDekuTrombonist's standards.
I agree.
I still need practice so I might as well try to get them perfect
2.5k words later... W00t! No more assignments for the year. Just got exams in 2 weeks then 3 months holidays.
Anyway, as for the little discussion that has taken place here in my absence:
Tempo Markings: Plenty of sheets have been rejected for not having proper Metronome Markings in the past, there's no reason why now should be any different.
Arrangements: I feel we perhaps use this term a little too much around here without properly explaining what it means. It is, by nature, a rather ambiguous term that can describe a broad range of material and content. In this case, 'arrangement' refers to a changing of instrumentation, but in reality, it's a piano reduction based on a transcription. That's it. No extras. Obviously there is some room for change with regards to octaves etc and possible simplification of parts that are too difficult/too awkard too play on piano but that's about it.
I didn't make those rules, that's been the goal of this site ever since it was started. To provide playable, accurate, sheet music that allows a person to play something that sounds as close to the original as possible. Most people can do this reasonably well. Now, when I can't recognise where notes are coming from when I've just listened to the original 2 seconds earlier, I think there's a problem.
Formatting: It's so bloody simple and easy to follow it's not even funny. But I will try and get the picture updated with the correct URL just to make it easier.
That's about it really. Got any questions, ask.
Olimar, Shado: Check your posts, you'll find comments in there.
Submission are Closed for this update.
I'll wait a little while for people to respond to the latest batch of comments and then put the update up. Hopefully by around Sunday but if people need time, I'm happy to wait.
it's called jazz font. I can switch it back to maestro if you want, but I just thought it'd look nice with jazz font.
Yeah that'd be kinda good. I have used the jazz font before for school projects back when I used Sibelius so it's not that I don't like it, I'd just rather stick with the standard we've got going here.
Updated.
Alrighty, all accepted.
