BEFORE YOU MAKE A REQUEST!Please use the forum search feature to make sure that it hasn't already been arranged! There is a chance that the person has not submitted it for the update yet, or is still waiting for the update. You should also check the In Progress Topic (http://forum.ninsheetmusic.org/index.php?topic=3343.0) to see if somebody is already at work on the song.
Do NOT make generic request threads. Make specific requests.Note: This section of the forum is only for requesting a piano arrangement of a song. If you're looking to make a special request for an orchestral arrangement or one for another instrument, please take that to the "Music" section.
Topic Title FormatIn the Subject, you should post in this format:
Quote[Console ID] Game Title - "Song Title"
For example:
Quote[PC] Touhou 10 - "Native Faith"
Acceptable Console IDs:See this topic:
Console abbreviations (https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/forum/index.php?topic=11423.0)If you're going to make multiple requests from the same game, stick them all in one topic with something like:
Quote[SNES] Chrono Trigger - Multiple Songs
Please be reasonable here, requesting 10+ tracks or straight up an entire OST is not reasonable.
If you're going to request a large amount of songs all from different games, unless they are from the same franchise (e.g. Mario), put them all in separate threads for each game series. Before posting, consider if it is necessary for you to stick your requests all in one thread.
Do:QuoteMultiple songs from The Legend of Zelda
QuoteMultiple songs from Kirby
Quote[MUL] Sonic the Hedgehog Series - Multiple Songs
Don't:QuoteMultiple songs from Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Team Fortress 2
Request FormatIn the topic itself, please post a link to an mp3 or youtube video of the song itself.
How to get youtube links - Links from the address bar will also workPost a link with this:
[url=Insert URL]mp3/Youtube/Song Title[/url]
Or a video with this:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ[/youtube]
Any helpful information should follow! For instance, if you know the key signature or tempo, please let us know!
If you think anything should be added to this please post in the thread.
What are the chances of getting this stickied?
About the same as the chances of JaMaHa or Concerto checking their PM box.
100%
Awesome.
Indeed
You should do some formatting/bolding/coloring to make the guide a little more appealing to the eye, and a little more organized. Perhaps even a code box for the "formula" to set it aside from the rest of the text more effectively.
The code box has a bunch of useless space, so I'll just use a quote box. There's not much more formatting I can do with it that doesn't just make it annoying, so there you go.

I was too lazy to put in the actual name. Most people would know what I mean.
Is there a way to mark a request as... fulfilled(?). Just to see what songs were requested and arranged, and which requests that are yet to be transcribed? In the (way-out-of-the-rules) request topic I made ages ago, I have marked all arranged songs with a strikethrough, but it's a little awkward to actually enter the topic each time you search the forum for old requests.
Should we make it a policy to change the topic title or symbol when the request is fulfilled? And what should the standard symbol/text be?
And do anyone understand me, I feel that I mess a lot with the words here...
Yeah Cobra, I know what you mean. Maybe the person who made the topic could place a smily in front of the topic title, like " :D". Then people know the requests have been fulfilled.
Delete the topic. You can do that. The person that has fulfilled the request should be placing the song in their post in the In Progress topic.

*waves*
now for the people in the present. As I'm the newly appointed Request Janitor, I'm going to adjust some of the formatting.
The title order shall be reversed thusly:
Quote[[Console ID] Game Title - "Song Title"/Multiple Songs (?/?)
This will make it easier to sort by "Subject" and find threads requesting the same game/franchise/console.
(?/?) will be used for multiple song threads when there are some requests fulfilled but not all.
*Claimed* will be used when a request is claimed with (?/?) denoting the number of songs that are claimed in multiple song threads. Decided not to do this and instead just change the message icon to a thumbs up.
If you have any suggested changes to the format I suggest, please send it to me as soon as possible.

[AtXXXX] or just [Atari]? There are so many models... But who requests Atari songs anyways? :P
Multiple Console is used for games that were released on multiple consoles. For example, Resident Evil 4, which was released on Gamecube, Playstation 2, PC, etc... So instead of writing [GC,PS2,PC...], you can just write [MUL].

Wait. Shouldn't Nintendo game cube be [NGC] instead of [GCN] ???
For 2 reasons.
1: the word Nintendo comes first. So the alphabet N should be in the front.
2: Nintendo entertainment system isn't called [ESN] and Nintendo 64 isn't [64N].
This is a valid point. I've been wondering this for a while too.

So in the mean time while Shado is away I'll try and tidy this place. It'll give me something to do in rehearsals.
I'm not sure what to do about fulfilled requests though. Should it only be fulfilled once it's on the site? What if the arrangement sucks; is it still fulfilled?
Deku will you allow us to put Flash game requests in please?
I don't know. There are so many requests from more popular console games that aren't fulfilled, so the chances of it being done are even less.
Also, I'm going to go through the fulfilled requests and if I can't find the actual arrangement, I'm considering it unfulfilled.
Do we need to provide youtube links if we can gaurentee that the game itself has a jukebox feature on it?
Yes.
Quote from: DekuTrombonist on March 22, 2013, 01:22:30 AMShould it only be fulfilled once it's on the site? What if the arrangement sucks; is it still fulfilled?
It's fulfilled when someone puts a link to the arrangement. Basically that. Doesn't need to be on site, it takes too long to submit a sheet when there are so many requests out there.
If the arrangement sucks (which happens more often than you think), bad luck for the requester!
Resuming, yes, it's considered fulfilled. :P

Stupid question. Can we request music from a fangame like Mario and Luigi rpg 4?
You can request whatever you want; that doesn't mean an arranger's going to do it :P
Personally, I prefer arranging songs from games that I'm familiar with, and I would assume that applies at least on some level to other arrangers on here. If I were you, I'd take slow's advice and take a crack at arranging them myself. If you ever wanted to get into arranging, this is a pretty good starting point, as far as transcription goes; the songs are relatively simple/not too layered.
...As for whether songs from that game would be put on the main site, I would imagine so, but I'm not entirely sure.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck :)
I am around 99% certain we can't put music from a fan game on the website, especially since the fan game is a copyright infringement of Nintendo's characters...
Not to mention there's already a game called Mario & Luigi RPG 4 (that's the Japanese title of Mario & Luigi Dream Team)
Well, the music is original, and I can't imagine us getting in trouble over their copyright infringement. It seems like we'd be ripping off nintendo even less than usual...
As long as we indicate that it's a fanmade game, I don't see why it should be a problem.
EDIT: Granted, I haven't studied law or anything. I'm just curious as to how arranging music that isn't even nintendo's would cause a copyright dispute with them.
I'm still saying no, but a mod would have to decide that officially.
Not that anyone cares, but I think it shouldn't be a problem. Were not actually doing anything with the characters, were just arranging the music, and in most of the cases, it's either composed by someone else not related to Nintendo or it's reused from another game (so the arrangement should be the one from the original, of course).
Anyways, as long as there is copyright, I think everything should go just fine.
That said, I wouldn't really approve of uploading those arrangements of fanmade songs to the site. But sincerely I can't see why we can't have them here in the forums.
Well of course we can arrange them here. I don't think they should be allowed on the site is what I was saying. Therefore I don't think official requests should be allowed.
We Could allow fangame sheets on the site, they just couldn't go on the page for that series (for example, Mega Man Unlimited Songs go in other, rather than Mega Man).
^^ this. Maybe specify a section of the site for soundtracks to fanmade games? (if there are ever enough sheets for that)
...Although, wouldn't need too many sheets to outnumber the Metal Gear Solid section...
Quote from: Yugi on September 16, 2013, 11:49:42 PMWe Could allow fangame sheets on the site, they just couldn't go on the page for that series (for example, Mega Man Unlimited Songs go in other, rather than Mega Man).
I disagree, most fan-made games are technically illegal 'cause they're unauthorized uses of copyrighted property. Plus I feel this site would lose it's credibility, if we'd allow posting music from games that don't have the permission of the company who published the original game.
also now i haz a plan
I could recreate Super Mario Bros. and replace the music with my own and that'd qualify as a fangame. Then I could get my own songs on the site. c:<
"Super Waddle Bros."
I like the sound of that
But not all fangames are plagarisms of original games, some Mega Man Fangames (Unlimited, Revolution, Street Fighter X Megaman), were endorsed by Capcom, and were allowed to brandish the 25th Aniversery Banner.
Street Fighter X Mega Man for example was funded by Capcom, so it's considered as a real Mega Man game. It just started as a fangame.

Which atari system?
the Atari 2600 or something like that
"or something like that" well there are multiple Atari #### systems... but yeah 2600 is one
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Atari_consoles
The 5 "major ones" seem to be the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Jaguar, and Lynx. Those were the ones Wikipedia even bothered to make game lists for. If we're going to even bother putting these down as classifications, might I suggest:
Atari 2600 - [2600] or [ATARI]
Atari 5200 - [5200] or [AT52]
Atari 7800 - [7800] or [AT78]
Atari Jaguar - [JAG] or [ATJAG]
Atari Lynx - [LYNX] or [ATLNX]

Yeah, a while ago, NSM changed its domain to .org, and ninsheetm.us (the previous site) was lost. Now, several links on site still connect to the old domain, and so you'll need to be careful when browsing topics like these that were made a while back, simply for that reason. Then you're like most of the requests on the request board.
Requests are treated more as suggestions here than things that must be fulfilled. If no one wants to do it, it may not happen.
Also, 2 days is barely any time. Give it longer.
Thanks, Maelstrom. I know I should give it longer, I just wanted to know what to do if nothing ever came up. I'll probably start to give up after a month or two.
it's also worth downloading arranging software and trying to work on it yourself. You could end up with a quality sheet.

I'm guessing that with the release of the Nintendo Switch and its associated games, there are going to be requests. I've played around with a few abbreviations, but they are always too long [SWTCH], or don't make sense ([SWCH], [STCH]). A little help?

For Nintendo SWitch
My suggestion would just be [SW].
Currently it's written in as [SWITCH] in the system
[NX]

Gonna move a discussion that was going on in the Discord to here:
A user by the name Jhynjhiruu was asking if he could make arrangements for the "Pokemon Mini" console - a Tamagotchi-like mini console from the late 90's/early 00's. This brings up the question of what tags we would put the console under, if any.
Personally, I'm in favor of adding an "Other" tag, but others have suggested a "Microconsoles" tag instead. I'd suggest reading the Wikipedia article on Microconsoles (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microconsole) first, since they had a different definition than what I initially thought they were.
Couple of things:
The Pokémon Mini should be listed as its own console. (What to abbreviate it as is another question.) Unlike other things like the Tamagotchi and the SNES/NES Classic Editions it has original games released for it. Original titles with their own cartridges and their own music.
I like the idea of having an "Other" category to catch all the other things you're thinking of, but there's a slight problem there of categorizing my company.
oo something i probably have a say in! time to use my Authority
totally would be down for an other category. I just did a lil bit of work on the board today and there were a couple made up tags used for consoles that didn't have one specified here (Commodore is the only one coming to mind rn) but I found workarounds for the few cases that existed. If I'm being honest, the exact specifications of the tags aren't super important, especially in cases like this where we would have very few requests/sheets for those games. At least in terms of the requests board; I know submissions and the site have their own uses but I'm p sure my point still works in those cases.
