I didn't see this anywhere.
I play:
Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bassoon, Harp (the stringed one), and Piano. I'm actually okay at most of them, except Piccolo.
So, what instrument(s) do you play?
I wonder how many of these topics I've voted in. Probably a good amount.
Anyway, I'm a violist (semi-prof), violinist (self-taught), and pianist (self-taught). (although I practically suck at the latter.)
My viola's name is Dropkick. ^-^ (don't ask)

It's good to know I'm not the only one who names their instruments. I feel less insane. The only one that is somewhat funny is the Bassoon. His name is Jammal the Inflator. I inflate balloons with it.
I wish Dropkick could do that. :|
Piano: Semi-Professional
Guitar: Self-Taught
Ocarina: Self-Taught
Tin Flute: Self-Taught
I'm planning on taking some String and Percussion classes this summer. AND I'm going to take Pipe-Organ.
They don't call me brassman for no reason... ;D
Tuba
Trumpet
Trombone
Beritone/Euphonium
F-horn
These I can play Semi-decent... :-\
Flute
Piano
Violin
I play drums(percussion), vibraphone, piano, bass guitar(donde esta?), and ocarina, all self taught. I'm best at vibes.
Piano and Kazoo.
Lol Kazoo
I play piano and cello, both learned by lessons.
I'm actually beginning to learn Trombone. It's in the shop to get cleaned and undented and polished and restored... I miss it...
I play the piano and trombone. I am at an advanced level for trombone, and whatever is above advanced for piano, but not master. Basically, I'm really good at trombone, and can play just about anything on the piano as long as I practice it. Currently, I'm working on Rhapsody in Blue on the piano, and for those of you who don't know, it's a 28 page song. I'm to around page 17 for practicing.
Piano, humming and whistling...
Piano, Double/Upright bass.
though I don't own an upright bass -_- I just play the one at school.
Piano, Percussion and Guitar are my intruments :)
Piano: 7 years of lesson and almost professional (played at some national concourses and stuff)
Keyboards: 5 years and self-taught
Accordion: 1 year and self-taught
Jaw's Harp: 1,5 and self-taught
Bass Guitar: 1,5 year and self-taught (but I do not own one)
Drums: 0,5 year and self-taught (and I also don't own one)
Percussion: 1 year and self-taught
Melodica: 2 years and "self-taught"
Piano (I can only play songs with one hand except for Mario 64 Ending)
Guitar (completely hopeless at it)
Armpits
I think I could play drums but have never tried...
Recorder just a little bit...
What. You have all these obscure instruments, but no guitar?
The only obscure intrument i could think of is the timpany... really, who's a professional timpany player?
The rest sound's pretty legit.
People can be timpanists, but are most likely just percussionists.
you want a real obscure instrument, try the morin khuur or the waterphone.
I prefer the dijjerydoo. XD
Quote from: Gamer4250 on March 21, 2009, 05:04:59 PMWhat. You have all these obscure instruments, but no guitar?
I was wondering too. So much brass and woodwinds, and no guitars, accordion, keyboards, synths and so much...
Apparently the guy has only played in an orchestra and has been kept away from ANY OTHER INSTRUMENT EVER.
Mommie, what's that strange thing with snares on it?
Bassoony, don't touch it!
;D
Alto Sax - ugh ^_^; pretty ok at it... 3 lazy~ years at it so I'm not too bad
Piano - self taught ^_^; for like 8 months ... I sound so noobish on it - am currently [trying to] learn Le Coucou by Louis-Claude Daquin (one more page to go 9_9)
Organ - wanted to be self-taught... but the school wouldn't let me near the organ without a teacher the first few times and I got all wrapped up and confused and excited I ended up inadvertently saying "YES I WANT TO LEARN ORGAN" >_> fairly loudly sooo...
Organ - first ACTUAL lesson tomorrow (I can't wait) 9_9 but I can already play toccata and fugue in D minor ^_^; well 3 more pages left of that fugue to learn....
ummmm... my friend also taught me how to play "The Take Over, The Breaks Over" by Fall Out Boy on an electric guitar
heh my friend's a timpani player 9_9 ... only timpani... he's a strange child
I only play Piano, but I'm talented at it, or so everybody says. :P I'd have some vids of me playin' on Youtube and the like, but I can't get my sis to video me >:(, and I don't have one myself, :( sooooo....
As I'm new, I figured I'd post here. I play the sax as my main instrument (5 years), but I also play piano to a certain extent ('bout 6 months), and I can fake the clarinet, flute, oboe, and trombone (I've had to play them each with a group at some point in time). I also play the squeezebox, but I would imagine nobody cares about that.
Oh and I occasionally sing with my band or with the school chorus when they need more baritones. (The only reason I'm in that is because there are 91 girls in the chorus, and 8 other guys.)
I play
Cello for 5 years studying privately with a teacher
Piano self-taught (i suck though)
Recorder (somehwat)
I "only" play the piano for "just" 9 years. I am quite good in my opinion, although I am far too lazy to win a competition. :D 6 years ago i took part in several competitions and i won one:). The judges always told me that I am such a talent but I practice far too less. And today I am used to training 3-times a week. Moreover, I really regret that I was not more ambitious, because I could be much better now. But it is too late...

I play accordion, or at least, the squeezebox.
I've been playing Piano for 7 years and drums for five.
Piano, for 3 years, I am good, but not amazing or anything
Violin, 1 year, moderate
Piano, self taught, 3 years, Virtuoso flare and ambition, but moderate ability...the first pice I learned was Liszt's 6th Hungarian Rhapsody, took 6 months to learn...
Vocals, 7 years, Baritone range
Quote from: MaestroUGC on June 22, 2009, 11:30:52 PMBaritone range
YES you're not one of them wimpy tenors.
i play Alto and Bari Sax, along with, of course, piano :P
AWESOME.
I noticed that of the 31 people who voted, 30 people play piano. Who doesn't?
I've been playing both the Alto and Bari sax for almost 4 years... I've also had 8 years of piano and about 2 months of guitar
The only instrument I play is trumpet... =P. I can also use the different gun sounds in Call of Duty: World at War to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but I don't think that counts does it?
It does ;)

You're crazy! Im in the piano 8th grade (last one) and even for me is very hard to play... Still, Ive learned it in 1,5 week.
You should play easier songs (not easy songs, just easier) because playing harder pieces than your skills only will create problems. Not only in techniques, but also physical problems, like in your wrists, hands, arms, and fingers... Ive open my wrist playing the last theme of that Rhapsody, because of the sucessive 8vas in the RH. So, be careful with yourself ;)

Trust me, I took it very slow on that piece, I know my limits. But I prefer playing the harder pieces, and I actually know the proper techniques to play. So don't worry about me, besides, I'm a singer before a pianist.

^Well, by the look of your arrangement and apparent piano skills, we all assumed that "This guy must be seriously dedicated to piano playing"
Then you come tell us that piano is a sort of side-hobby. Now we wonder why we haven't heard about you before. If you're even better at singing than piano, and manage to combine those skills, you'll reach far.

its good to take every music slow, even the basic ones. Maybe you
think that you have the proper technique to play it, but trust me, you can learn you piano teachers more than you think. Its impossible to learn all the techniques with self-taught training, no offense.
Of course that everyones loves/try to play the harder pieces, but you have to "tame" yourself, because talent isnt everything... Believe me, I dont wanna be coxy, but everyone says that I have a great talent for piano and composition, mostly my teachers, but to increase your talent, you'll need to know EVERYTHING. You should have piano lessons. You'll understand better what I saying.
I understand what you're saying, and I know I need lessons, but actual teachers have given me compliments on my technique and are amazed tat the fact that I'm self taught. What I'm really worried about are theory lessons.
And on the software topic, I can't tell you how many pieces I've written on paper, but it's an amazing feeling to have when you finish writing a piece by hand.
im self taught, and im pretty happy with it.....
however, i only play for personal and others' enjoyment...
but i have to say, it could be nice not to have to memorize your music in order to play it ::) but if i do memorize it, i can play it anywhere i go...

It might be amazing, but it takes so much time and it's better to compose it on the computer, so you can hear it with the proper instruments. And btw, please torrent Sibelius 5! Best program ever. Seriously.

I play the Piano, Snare drum, Marimba, drums, some guitar, vibes, chimes, xylophone, and orchestra bells. I'm kinda busy with piano and marimba since I'm best at those two.

Wow you guys (and girls if there are any here) play alot of instruments. I've played keyboard for like 1 year now and I will get a digital piano very soon. I will wait some years before I start learning another instrument, I guess it's easier to learn other instruments when you know alot of music theory.
After you really learn piano. The rest are really easy, because you should be able to sight-read, know theory, timing, and coordination.
^I was about to say that too.
The 1st 3 years learning piano are the worst, but then, you'll be able to learn faster, youll dont need to see watch your hands to play, you'll get more coordination, etc...
2 years piano, 1 year bass,8 months finale notepad 2008, 6 months upright bass.
7 years trombone, 2 years piano

I agree that a good tuba can be amazing, but one thing about it is: NO JAZZ TUBA!!!! I hate it... theres one at our school... its awful

guitar's easy to learn. Took me only a few weeks to get the hang of.
are you sure?
I probably could have pressed the "Other" button a couple of times ;)
Piano is my main instrument, except for that I play:
Guitar, bass, drums, mallet-instruments, ocarina, Spilåpipa (I have no idea what that is called in english. It's a swedish instrument, kinda like a flute), recorder, organ, keyboard/synth, lergök (when I translate it, it says Ocarina, which isn't correct...it's a different instrument, but still a flute), ukulele, panflute, a weird panflute from Thailand, harmonica and accordion.
Don't think that I can get in anymore instruments right now, but most of them are here =D

Hmmmm... wish I could update my vote on here. As of now I play piano, many forms of percussion, guitar, bass guitar, vocals( I think vocals are technically considered a musical instrument), a little bit of flute, ocarina, and piccolo. I really want to learn to play the saxophone. T'would be epic indeed.

What kind of Ocarina can you play? I mostly play a mountain ocarina, but I have normal ones too.
Don't really know it's technical name seeing as it was my friends, and after intense scrubbing and soap action, became mine. Its a got 4 holes on top. Pretty high pitch. I mostly self taught, besides a few youtube instruction vids.
Wow, you guys are really versatile with instruments. I played piano when I was younger but quit after a few years. I'm hoping to take it back up this summer though. Right now I play guitar (mostly electric) and have been for about a year and a half. It may not be the most difficult instrument to learn, but playing it really cleanly and quickly can take a while and is still what I'm working on.
I really doubt I'll try to pick up anything else, except maybe drums. All those classical instruments are really beyond my league.
Most people on a sheet music site is somewhat good on instruments ;)
But seriously, the only instrument I'm REALLY good at is piano! I'm good at most of those instruments, but piano is the only one I'm great at, all the other ones are self-thought. I'm actually really good at the flutes too! But not better than someone that have played for a while.
I learn fast =D
two other people play double bass, I wonder who.
51 other persons play piano, I wonder who?
:D
no one plays contrabasson. I wonder who?
Well I can play the other! Really fun instrument =D
Flute.. Piccolo... Piano.. Guitar... And soon Violin.
French Horn (Mellophone[unless that counts as a separate instrument]), Trumpet, Piano, Ocarina. 1st half: School. 2nd half: self-taught.
The piano and other (recorder, harmonica. :P)
I play Piano (Grade 6), Clarinet (Grade 5) and Bari Sax just for stage bands.
Next year, when I get to go in band, I'll try to do the sax, since that's the instrument my father played in band. But if I get to go in jazz band, I shall try out for the piano, since I've found the joy in life for two and a half years just playing a song or two. Plus, it's the only part I think I'll be good at, soo.... ::)
I am so inspired to learn Violin. And only because I want to get good enough to be able to play the violin solo of The Rain Must Fall(live) by Yanni. Greatest violin solo ever.
I can TECHNICALLY play 4 instruments... but three of them suck :P
Piano's my only good instrument.
Then violin, euphonium, and saxophone :P
