Title: Saddest Gaming Moments
Post by: The-Real-Link on January 08, 2009, 07:46:22 PM
What would consider the saddest gaming moments of any you have experienced? Mine would probably be....

When Ike found out how his mom died in Fire Emblem: Path of Radience...the artwork and music that went along with it just added to the saddest.....excellent artwork!!

In Lost Odyssey, the dream sequence called "Hannah's Departure." It's really sad...but the writing is SOOO good....and the music is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!!!!!!

When the Wind Waker credits rolled.....cause that meant the game was over =(

Edit: NEW ONE  When Edward found out that Anna(That was her name, right?) was dead in Final Fantasy IV.

That was sad.

Then in MGS4:
when Naomi dies.
where Naomi is saying good buy in the video.
when Otacon tells Sunny that Snake "Needs some time to rest" when you think Snake just killed himself.

yeah, pretty sad game.

I was pretty sad in FFX when you found out Yuna had to die...but she didn't...yay!
I guess for the most part I play pretty happy-go-lucky games.
The end of Mother 3...the world is destroyed to make a new one...the thought of the world ending even for the good of mankind is pretty heart wretching...that and Earthbound music has always made me cry like a bitch, haha!

This definitly tugs the heart strings... also in Fire Emblem; Blazing Sword, when Eliwood mistakenly kills Ninian.

It's been a long time since anything in a video game made me sad, but I can remember from childhood something in Final Fantasy V made me sad. I've totally forgotten what it was though :D

For me... well, I haven't played many games with good stories. Still, if I have to choose, it would be in Wind Waker, where SPOILER!!
You have to take Medli, the bird-girl from Dragon Roost Island, guide her through the deepest, creepiest, saddest temple in the game, where she'll live the rest of her life in prayer for Hyrule, eventually drowning when the ocean collapses onto the land.
The one who had a successful dragon taming/music career lying in front of her, born and raised to soar the skies with her own wings, is possessed by an ancient spirit, following which a stranger in green takes her to a faraway island, massacres his way through the place, and puts her in a featureless room deep under the ground/ocean, where she is to spend the rest of her life doing practically nothing.

The end of the game is quite sad too, where the magical land of Hyrule is drowned once and for all, its history going ad undas (literally "in the waves").

I saw some people talking about FFX, when you learn that yuna has to die... but what about the ending? It made me real sad honestly, never thought it would end like that (well at least until you learn it~) Hopefully, there was FFX-2.  :P

I found the ending of FFX incredibly sad, but i agree with those people who also talked about Yuna possibly dying. That game made me really sad for a fairly long time, partic, while I was playing it, just cos it was so bittersweet. (I'm such a sook). But that really is a fantastic game. I love it to death.

Chrono Trigger, while technically not sad, has such a haunting nostalgia to it (thanks to the music) that it also has a wonderful bittersweet and yes, very saddening but beautifully so effect. Also love it.

The end of any Earthbound game is sad because there is no more Earthbound.

^Yeah, I know she is shovn during the credits, but at the time you bring her into the temple, Link knows that Hyrule is bound to drown, but still has no second thoughts of leaving her several stories below the ocean floor. Even though she managed to get out, it was quite unexpected. Not only that, you let the innocent girl witness the massacre of the hundreds of temple guards on your way down there. And it's clearly established that the room she's left to pray in has no source of water, food or a proper sanitary system. Not to mention ventilation, heating or any other feature a room needs to keep a bird girl alive.
(She's also too weak to open the heavy stone doors out of there, you notice when you guide her that she can't leave the room on her own).

Link's a sadist.

Saddest moment...
maybe in ratchet and clank tools of destruction when clank dissapears at the end...

oh, and i know this isn't a video game, but how about the really sad song from bleach, "never meant to belong". it's pretty depressing.
